Long and complicated stroy, but thankfully my S211 is back! :)

I sent the Chrysler back because:

1. The ride made my wife sick, literally!
2. The interior quality was so woeful compared to the 211
3. I REALLY missed my Merc!

So, the company took it back, raised my mileage allowance and fortunately the guy who was going to buy my car was having second thoughts too and has decided to go for a CLK instead!

So, it's great to be back with my 211 again (and my wife is ecstatic!). Very true to say, you don't know what you've got till it's gone!!

LOL!!!! Well...... :D

Truth? The 211 is such a hard act to follow. Only an MB can replace an MB.. :)

I know how you feel. I had a similar experience with a Volvo XC90 that lasted 6 months and couldn't wait to get back in a Merc again. Just like your favourite slippers

I think sometimes familiarity breeds a little contempt and you feel the urge to try something new... Luckily, I didn't buy the Chrysler, but last night I was gutted at the thought of losing my MB! So, all's well that ends well I guess... :)

Next job, Saab --> SLK and that won't be a mistake!! :)

It's the same old story. Once you have owned a MB it is very hard to drive anything else. They sort of "get you" in a strange way.

Too right!

Yes, much more. Chrysler was good looking, but I couldn't live the "rock and roll" ride and iffy build quality! So nice to have E back again! :)

You've always wanted an CLS, so why don't you go out and buy one? you seem to have enough cars, sell one or two:thumb:

Is there a reason why Chrysler are shyte?

When I see a 300C, I assume it would be of a similar build quality to mine.

I rented one of those in Florida for 3 weeks.

Bargetastic with the largest blind spot on the A pillar of any vehicle I've ever driven.

Nasty plastics, awful ride, slushmatic auto, gas guzzling American POS.

I read this thread and really want to just accept it and stop looking at Cayennes.

I wish there is someway that I could get a longer term test drive in a Cayenne, so that I can decide if to stick with my 211 or not.

It's a shame as they are quite a looked, I always fancied one until I had a ride in one

Yours is a 2004 W211, so quite possibly...

Fortunately, I knew what to look for to get one made between Summer 2004 prior to the 2006 facelift - so mine is of the same era as the OP (mine is October 2004).

It's as tight as a drum and is better put together than nearly all my previous 14 cars. Has had no issues in nearly 8 months...

However, I've not sampled the delights of a Chrysler so I don't know how it compares, but given the OP experience, I would imagine I would be thinking the same.

I wouldn't say Chrysler are shyte. It's more a case of where you came from before. If you had a Kia, Hyundai or Vauxhall even, you'd probably love it - but, from an E to a 300, really makes no sense except from a price perspective. The biggest let down was the interior, the ride and the awful plastic smell that made my wife feel sick! :D

Exactly the same! Faultless in three years!
Rock solid, brilliant build quality. I'm expecting a CLS to be the same...

I would have thought it would be. I think 10/2004/54 was the start of better Mercs which has continued ever since.

Didn't the CLS start on 54 plates?

:bannana:

I think also the difference is the cost....

In America we have had all sorts of hire cars some look like Jag Convertibles yet when you see them on forecourts they are £15000 new !! so you get 3.6 V6, auto, power everything, inc roof for fiesta money.

The Chrysler is probably a £15K car in the USA, but buy the time it comes over here, wheel swapped taxes paid etc its a £25K car say.

At £15K its a bargain, you forgive it the odd thing, the fact you can see the screws holding it together etc.. At £25K or more people expect better.

Whats wrong with 2004 E211's Mines a 2003, bought new and collected from the factory. Brilliant car hence why my dad hasn't changed it for this long and now I drive it :)
