Absolutely gutted, had a wee bump in the car this afternoon. Picked my parents up from Edinburgh airport today, went into the wrong car park and on the way out I didn't see a raised kerb. Had absolutely no idea it was there. Drop off in Edinburgh airport is the ground floor of a multi story and the lighting is terrible. Going by the pile of fog light glass I'm not the first person to do this! Going to local smart repairer tomorrow to see what they say, will also get a couple of quotes to replace and paint and may claim on insurance dependent on how much my excess is. Any guesses at how much it will cost?

It's plastic isn't it? Easily repairable. Don't go to a dealer they will want to replace it.

I did similar on the rear bumper. Found a local bodyshop £250 including paint. Yours maybe more dependent on damage to sensors etc.

I wouldn't go the insurance route.

I've had a bumper plastic welded in the past and wasn't happy with it. It's cracked and quite badly scraped. Keep looking on eBay for a silver bumper but no luck as yet.

Going to get a couple of quotes this morning then I'll try popping it out a bit till it goes in for repair.

Sorry to hear of your misfortune - damn annoying these things!

I think a lot of these high kerbs and low bollards, you know, the ones that are usually poles about 18 inches high, should be done away with! Ridiculous!

If they insist on having high high kerbs they should have a low kerb ahead of it that your tyre hits to stop you going forward and damaging your car... A bit like they have in the States! (Due to many suits being brought from cars being damaged in a similar way no doubt).

Like these:

With an impact like that it fairly easy to assess the surface damage. What's more difficult to ascertain is any underlying damage which may be unseen. There's a big frontal crash bar but you may have missed that but there does seem to be two plastic support moldings at either end- one of which you might have damaged. - see the link to the diagram. may be similar to this early W204 front end ?

Sorry to see that and , yes EDI drop off is terrible and pricing is a rip off .

If going again , park at Gyle shopping centre ( free parking ) and hop on tram ( 1 stop ) to airport . There's a tram stop adjacent to Gyle car park and well away from shops so you can park safely and even with luggage easily get on tram . Airport tram stop is just next to car drop off point anyway .

Just picked the car up from a local smart repairer and first stage is complete. Will get it booked in within the next week or 2 the get bumper repaired and painted.
