Bank holiday driving

Mmmm interesting - quite a few women and retired vicars on this forum, methinks. Next they'll be telling me they haven't got the strength to support the hose as it stretches over the back of the boot. Ah, bless their little biceps!
Blasphemy, may you be struck down by lightning while holding your pantyhose!

OK about middle lane hogging, it is possible to get a ticket for it. But it isnt lane hogging at speed limit

I have seen people doing 60mph on lane 3, to me that qualifies as lane hogging
Edit: Two idiots almost hit me while I was in lane 1, doing speed limit and they tried to overtake me. They both nearly missed me, for some reason the X3 braked hard and got right in front of me, then the "upset" saab driver tried to tailgate him...
were you overtaking any cars at that time ? was there a large gap in front of you ? just wondering

I was in Lane 1 doing 40mph which was speed limit with nobody in front of me. The road happens to be an average speed zone check as well.

Lane hogging technically is if you are in lanes 2 or 3 and there is no traffic on the inside being over taken at the time. They are both overtaking lanes according to the Highway code. Having said that to me it seems ludicrous (if not a little dangerous) watching cars zig zag across 3 lanes at 70mph+ flitting in between gaps in cars on a moderately busy Motorway, common sense should prevail depending on speed and the size of gaps available on the inside lanes...

Seriously........that bothers you? I thought I was grumpy.:)

The queues are there because people block the pumps while they do their grocery shopping.

I always wait for a pump on the cap side - not dragging a hose over, under or around my paintwork (never have, never will), the hoses are usually pretty filthy as well.

So apologies, you are going to have to be patient if I'm ahead of you:p!

I wonder why they have the indicator in the car showing which side the cap is on?
They don't have an indicator telling you what side the fuel cap is on.

But they do an arrow in the fuel gauge

When I said 'they' I meant cars in general (particularly older cars and stupidly forgot I was on an MB forum !  I have driven a number of vehicles that have no indication of which side the fuel cap is on. Just out of interest anyone got an old Jag with the twin filler caps ? You got two arrows on your fuel gauge ? Do Teslas have an arrow saying which side the plug hole is ? Does the fridge light really go off when you close the door ? ..When a tree falls in the forest and there is no one there to see it , does it make a sound ?.....time for my med's I think.

In the majority of cases, is it as simple as the fuel filler is positioned to suit the country of origin. German cars drive on the right so fuel filler is on the right. A Japanese or British manufacturer would position it on the left.

Not hard to remember.

Nearly every car I have owned for the last 10 years had the arrow, Jag, Mercedes, Lexus, Range Rover but agree easy to miss!

Dear me ....... There's some high blood pressure out there today.
Bank holiday driving - Best avoided - It's a good day to do your maintenance, polishing, whatever ...
Anything except battling the bank holiday traffic.

I took the Mrs' SLK out this morning for a wash, stopped at the village shops and left the roof down for at least 20 mins!!

It's a seaside holiday destination so plenty of tourists around but no obvious driving problems, however, I did have a chuckle at a couple of Londoners in Boots asking for some cream for a 'special' rash.

The mother in laws Toyota Yaris. On R/H drive models the fuel gauge is on the left , on left hand drive models it is on the right...but (obviously) the actual filler cap remains on the same side on both markets. The left side .They simplify things by adding the tiny arrow :) . The big old Ford F250 pick up trucks I used to drive during my apprenticeship, two fuel tanks serviced by one fuel gauge and a switch to select tanks, pretty sure that didn't have a little arrow. But I do remember that sinking feeling we had when in the middle of nowhere I flicked the switch to change from the empty tank to the full one only to see the gauge steadfastly refuse to move from "E" to "F" ...'someone' had forgotten to fill the other tank...not me, apprentices weren't allowed into the fuel depot...thankfully. Happy days:p

My wife's B class has the cap on the left ....................

It's been crazy in Leeds today ... Tour de Yorkshire.
Roads closed all over the place.
I don't want to be a kill-joy - But I find it hard to get excited.
Lots of cyclists about - Someone must be enjoying it.

Oh well, Bank Holiday again today, I’m off to the Kit Car show in the 3 wheeler, and fully expect to be blocked in on inside lane, or otherwise hampered by cars sitting alongside so the kids can gawp and/or take photos.

(Love it really....)

And on top of everything else .... It's throwing it down with rain in Leeds.
Typical bank holiday.
My fault really ...... Having decided not to drive anywhere, I watered the garden.

Had a pillock in a 19 plate MB GLE pull out across me on a roundabout this morning.... had to brake :wallbash: .... they’re everywhere!
I had exactly the same yesterday with a 7.5T truck , probably driven by a moron on a car licence , was criticised by her ladyship for blasting the horn as I braked to avoid .

In that case they are normal and we are the weirdo element.

I'm going to switch sides, in fact I've already started. Drivers around where I live are too slow so I have started overtaking rather than stewing and tutting, the old grunters love it, you should see them flashing their headlights in appreciation.
I’ve adopted that strategy for some time : as long as I have good visibility of a clear road , and a ‘landing zone’ ahead to come back into , second gear in the SL makes them easy pickings to hop up the queue 2 or 3 cars at a time , using engine braking to drop back into the gap ; and the 300-24 makes a lovely noise when extended .

I get the same hoots and flashes of appreciation from some of them .
