What are the best value lowering springs for my 2001 W210 avantgarde? I want a nice drop leaving minimal arch gap with 18x8.5 & 18x9.5?

First thing is to check the spring pads. you may be able to get some reduction if you have bigger ones fitted. A pad with one pip is the least with 5 pips if the highest. So if you have 5 pips on your front pads, by changing to 1 pip you can lower by 16 mm:
Front
210 321 0184 5mm
210 321 0284 9mm
210 321 0384 13mm
210 321 0484 17mm
210 321 0585 21mm
Rear
210 325 01 84 5 mm
210 325 02 84 9 mm
210 325 03 84 13 mm
210 325 04 84 17 mm
You can check the pad number by feeling the bumps on the pad itself:

Ive got Brabus springs (approximatly 35mm drop) on mine with 21mm front shims and 17mm rear shims, Ill try and take some photo's of the car tomorrow.

Sorry to bring up this thread again, but now i have settled on a set of wheels i want to keep on, i now want a stiffer and slightly lower stance with less body roll and travel.

Has anyone used the Spax suspension kits before?

The one i have my eye on is this kit:

Spax - If you are looking for an Spax Mercedes W210: E-Class 5+6cyl (Excluding T series) 12/95-00 Ride Adjustable Suspension Lowers by:40 (P099) Now with £50 Off RRP! click here Spax

any help or recommendation would be very much appreciated.

Hi Jimmy, what happened with the 20's, too much of a harsh ride..??

P.S. See if anyone is breaking a E55 AMG then go with the shocks and springs from that to give you the best ride. :thumb:

the ride wasnt that bad actually, Falken 452's have a lot to answer for! much smoother than the Pirelli P Zeros i have on now!

I decided it was too much hassle running the 20's, the rears were fine, but anymore than 2 people in and the fronts would catch the arches, even after rolling them - and as it's a 4 door saloon, it seemed kind of pointless so now i have some 18" Sl55 turbine wheels on which i love. Im going down a whole new direction with the car, i want it to be aggressive, stiff and well handling, not just low in big wheels.

AMG springs and shocks would be good! does it sit much lower than an avantgarde?

I think the AMG suspension is lower than standard Avantgarde, as I compared mine to another W210 and mine looked much better!

My CLK has Brabus springs on it 35mm drop (Photo in gallery) and it runs 18" staggered set up for the wheels & tyres.

I've used Spax kits on loads of stuff like Golfs, Seat, Focus etc but not so sure I'd put one on an MB

As others say if you dont want to spend Brabus money then Eibach or H&R are the best options IMHO

I think i will go for the H&R set up as it seems to be good value for money.

This is height it is at now. Front:

Hi

not exacly a lot of space to play with on your front wheel...

high spring rates and mega re-bouding required mate

mazza

You can't go wrong with H&R. As to the spax I did install a set years ago on my brother's e30 and they were far too stiff.

Yeah i think im going to look at H&R's - although after todays news i might just start looking for a new car... rust has eaten away all the love i have for my car. :(

It's not terminal, no, but its more than i can really afford at this very moment in time - £830 to replace the wings and paint...

 Blimey..!!!

Wings are about £100 each and if you know someone who can spray should be able to sort it out alot cheaper than that. I have one wing with bubbling on - got quoted £200 to get it sorted.

yeah mine are rotten through, so im now on the hunt for new wings!
I have seen new wings around £100 on ebay, they are obviously patent parts but to be honest it doesn't really make a difference these days.

By the way wasn't quite sure about the Turbines on your car but they actually look rather nice the more I look at the pics. Take one of the whole car so can get a better idea.
