220CE COUPE,,
just spent over an hour looking through the post's to try and find info on whats the widest tyre's on 17" rim's,, that will fit on a 1993 220 coupe,, without body work mod's,, no luck,,

steel or alloy wheel's, either will do,, anybody know,,???

found a bit of info on ebay,, dont know if its correct,, 17x7.5/225/45r/17,,???

sounds about right - i run 225/45/17's on my 230ce

Hi there,

I am sure that the size you mention (225/45/17) will work ok. I think one of the members here (Howard) has this setup on his W124 coupe.

Get a nice set of AMG 17" styling I or II, I think they'll look great :)

Isotta Strada steering wheel

Heres some piccys

yeah , its been dropped 35 mm

the offest should i beleive be ET35

good luck mate !!

On the rear of mine I use 235x40x17 on 8" et35 rims. No mods and no rubbing.
On the fronts I use 215x45x17 on 7.5" et35 rims.
It was like this when I bought it, wouldn't recommend staggered wheels.
If you really want me to I could swap fronts and backs to see if the wider wheels will work on the front.
If I where you I'd stick to 215 or 225s. You don't need anything wider on a 220.
edit to add pic...

what's the ride like,, compared to standard,, & no clearence problems,,

what spring's & shock's did you use,,??

Was dropped when i got it ... it was dropped 45 mm but it was too low, bumped on everything, i had it raised by 10mm and all ok now...

Not sure what springs are on it, but just about to replace the shocks with some Brabus spec Bilsteins that i picked up off a guy on Ebay who a few of the members have used .....

has it been lowered
Many, many times  ;)
I know all there is to know about lowering a W124 because I've made every mistake there is.
ask away....

do'nt want to sacrifice too much ride quality,, so,, how much lower,, 35mm like howard's,,??

which spring's & shocks to use,,??,, & where to buy them,, & cost,,??

any special tool's needed,,??,, i've got spring compressor's,,

do you have to alter the geometry,, toe in-out,, etc,,??

I'll put together some thoughts and post in the suspension section in the next few days.

15" wheels. Available as 6.5J (standard) or 7J (sportline).

yes they are 8J 16s, on the rear the tyres are 225/50/16 on the front they are 205/55/16s.

After much messing around with various tyre sizes I decided that was the set up I liked the best, 225s on the front didn't feel quite right and occasionally the car would tramline.

Other's I've spoken to have said the same but then again don't seem unduly stressed by it :)

HTH
