Bird poo has damaged my paint!

Hi

I am sorry to hear about the poo damage.

As already mentioned, it's important to take as much preventative action as possible, i.e waxed/sealed paintwork.

A decent wax will for sure reduce the "window of opportunity" for the poo to damage your paint so it is important that you wash the poo off as quickly as possible. A carnauba based wax is better defense against bird poo.

With regards to fixing the problem, something like this should help and it isn't too dear:Meguiars ScratchX It is important to not go in "guns blazing" with loads of product and manically rubbing it in, but you will need to work it in progressively. Start off with a small amount of product and then check the paintwork after each application.

Goodluck and as us if you have any questions.

Regards
G:)

I totaly agree I find Meg's overhyped and overpriced sh*te, there are far better out there, there are one or two good products on the range but overall there is better out there for the money depending on what particular job you have in mind.

Nothing wrong with Megs products, I have £100's worth including G220 etc. albeit not from their consumer range.
Elite (above) also plugging Megs.

ps Elite are excellent to deal with too and no, I don't work for them!

No it's each and to their own and if they work for you that's great, but I really don't like them, there are far better products than Megs for the money. IMHO

Unfortunatly show shine (if you mean ag) is the ultimate hologram product. it leaves holograms all over the body of a car, so in direct sunlight it really doesn't look very nice.

What is a hologram product??? Sorry to show my ignorance..

Hi there bud! Here is a couple of examples of holograms on paint. You dont tend to see them unless your car is under direct sunlight:

They are cause by bad wash technique, and usaully quick detailers sprayed onto a warm paint surface, or in direct sunlight. Basicly they pretty much occur everytime most people wash there car.

In this picture, is an old RS turbo that i treated to a 21 stage enhancement exterior clean.

This is what the paint was like in direct sunlight with all its nasty swirls, random deep scratches and holograms from old car products not applied correctly.

Then some pictures of what the paint looked like after, in direct sunlight.(note no holograms)

Doesn't matter how much the sun shine's its defect free!sweet!(Apart from clouds, and the lines in the paint to the right of the bonnet are vapour from planes in the sky:D)

But yes thats what holograms are!:thumb:

Oh and Auto glym show shine does this to paint everytime i have ever seen it used!

Is there a "simple" cure? Would a clay / polish / wax sort it?

For the DIYer that is..

Good job on that RS H13. The paint had such a deeper tone and was pretty flawless after you had worked the magic lol.

Yes...yes there is!

A micro abrasive polish dedicated to hand use (wipe on-wipe off) will really help with most of the awful holograms, but thats it. The removal of everything else including 100% holograms will be in need of a dual action polisher or rotary.
But i find the best product in the land for hologram removal via hand is dodo juice lime prime. Its a pre wax cleaner, but with micro abrasives in it, so use in between drying and waxing and your car will be hologram free.Like said its very good and im sure you'll be more then happy, but to remove completly you'll need a machine polisher.

p.s. Also if you do purchase this product make sure you buy lime prime and not lime prime lite.

Heres a cheeky link to the product in question!
In 250ml form
- Dodo Juice Lime Prime pre-wax cleanser 250ml Elite Car Care

In 500ml form (will last forever!lol!)
- Dodo Juice Lime Prime pre-wax cleanser 500ml Elite Car Care

So as stated the procedure to hologram free paint for amateurs with no machine polish or fancy gear!i.e. degreaser's, grit bucket etc.

-Jet wash and rinse paint to remove bulk of dirt and grime
-Wash paint with ph neutral shampoo.(If you dont have degreasers or a snow foam then do this stage now, as it will help with the removal of oxidations. When washing with one bucket, dip into clean shampoo bucket. Clean one panel, and then hose the mitt or sponge to remove the dirt so that when it re enters the bucket it will be clean. This will obviously keep the shampoo bucket clean, therefore you will not be putting the grit and dirt back onto the paint.
-Rinse paint with your jet wash.
-Clay your paint with your clay and quick detailer.
-Shampoo car again as this helps with complete removal of any sticky spots the clay left.
-Rinse paint again with jet wash.
-Dry your paint.
-Apply micro abrasive pre wax cleaner. This will now remove the holograms and clean your paint, leaving it shiney with good depth and clarity.(Treat it like polish. Apply small amount as a little goes along way. Let it cure for 15-20 mins until it turns chalky. When you wipe a small area and it comes off, leaving the panel clean and clear, its ready to come off)
-Now apply your protection. whether its wax or sealent, the paint will be perfectly clean for the protection to cling too. Meaning the cleaner your paint, the more durability your protection.:thumb:

Hi

Your actually incorrect here, the main culprit for the defects on the picture is the incorrect usage of the machine poilsher. You can see the trails all over the bonnet.

I know in this particular picture they are buffer trails caused by either wrong technique of a machine polisher, or the use of a harsher compound, But the guy ask what holograms can look like.
So i thought i would show him a couple of pictures that show holograms. Whether it occured via bad wash routine or machine polishing is irrelevant. There just pictures i pulled of google quickly to give some quick examples of holograms, of which they are both holographic defects.
If you read the whole post i wrote, you may understand it was an example of holograms not, ' heres examples of different types of holograms and how each one occurs via different bad techniques.
But thank you :thumb:

Have you tried some colour polish on it?

A bird crapped on the bonnet of my car one day. It was everywhere.

That was the last time I took her out for a meal.

^Groan. But not a bad effort for 4.39am.
