I have been at it again. After my exploits at Christmas I thought it time to put an other coat of the Klasse / Carlack acrylic wax on the car.

(See http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=11481 for details)

Firstly, after my efforts at Christmas and then using the two bucket method since then I could see some swirl on the paint. I used the Carlack 68 which is a non abrasive paint cleaner/sealant and discovered that all the swirl went. In other words the fine marks were on the wax / acrylic protection surface and not actually on the paint. I then re coated with the Klasse Sealant Glaze / Long life acryl wax and this is the result. Only a good mornings work.

Attached are the results so far - Very Bling.

Sorry for the small picture size, I am running out of space

Klasse unfortunately has to be imported from the USA. So can be expensive due to postage, but if you are going to buy a load of car stuff it works out cheap Autopia are the chaps I recommend http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?autopia+MBWu4u+index.html+

The same stuff in Europe (but they try to tell you it is not ;) ) is Carlack this can be purchased from the Polishing Company. (See the perfect shine thread for details on this but the website is www.thepolishingcompany.com he does a deal for MBClub members.)

Hi. The paintwork on your car is quite something!

While looking at the polishing company site I noticed they sell the porter cable polisher that you use for what seems like a reasonable price (£230, all necessary bits included). But I have seen, on other sites, Meguiar's own power polisher for £100.

Does anyone have any experience of the Meguiar's product? Or is this one of those "you get what you pay for" times?

I bought one of these without considering a cheaper option solely because I did not want to risk damaging the bodywork of my car. I have seen the results of the porter cable and not heard any complaints, so I made a judgement that it was safe to use.

Blow being the guinea pig on something that might put swirl marks or even worse onto the bodywork?

John

Yeah, I don't fancy being a guinea pig either! I'll probably end up getting the Porter and try to make some money back doing peeps' cars at work!! :p

roj,

I bought the Meguiar's orbital buffer, it works great. The only criticism i have was getting the batteries charged, you have to charge and discharge them 4 times before they take a fulll charge, then the battery last's for 1.5 hours.

Peter.

Do read the Power Polishing Thread (with the sticky) http://mbclub.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=6997, we have had this discussion before ;) The Meguiars battery polisher does a very good job at waxing but if you want to really do a good job you need the power of a mains powered Porter Cable. The Polishing Company deal is quite good but you can do the import yourself cheaper by using Autopia, the Polishing Company are doing this for those who do not want the hassle themselves and want the security of dealing with a UK company (but to be quite honest there is very little hassle and things are very secure if you use Autopia which is were most of us have got them from)

The currently have them on offer for $119 plus $34 ish for the Sonus pad set, you then need to buy a transformer from Screwfix. If you want to check out the price including postage, go to the Autopia site and fill your basket, go to check out select "International" and it automatically calculates the cost of delivery on the weight. You can then close the explorer window if you dont want to proceed.

Use this link http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?autopia+MBWu4u+index.html+ for Autopia.

These pictures make me ache inside. I soooo wanted Obsidian Black, but as I only wash my car every one to two years, I knew it would look like a pile of junk for most of the time.

Plus, being an estate, I didn't want to look like I was driving a hearse. :p

That is one beautiful shine. Great work.

Goldfish: Is that a solid or metallic black? Being an AG, it has metallic as standard, so I assume it's metallic.

Its Obsidian Black Metallic :D , but I have managed to get a great finish on wifeys Honda which is a Tropical Blue Colour, black gives great reflections but so does any paint when you give it a good wax and polish. The issue is even when paint comes straight out of the factory the finish is not perfect, so a bit of work really produces a finish better than in a show room. The Porter Cable was a revelation for me, the finish you can acheive is amazing in a very short period of time. However the paint is now so good I only need to get this tool out about every 6 months, to give the car a quick 30 minute once over :)

I cannot believe it - you've actually got me browsing US "detailing" sites... :o and checking out the price of that polisher thing.

I love the bonnet picture - I didn't even know my bonnet had those folds in it. When you've got a mud brown coloured car like mine, it all looks sort of fuzzy.

I am trying to remind myself that my car would never, ever, be that clean.

Me too, been looking at '89 Mustangs and '92 Vettes all afternoon!!

I really will take the plunge and buy one of these things soon!! Having missed Christmas and Birthday before reading Goldfishes threads, I've been waiting for the wedding anniversary as an excuse to lavish myself and the cars!!

You will not regret buying a Porter Cable it is the best car extra I have ever purchased. I only wish I had discovered one years ago.

As I say, in the power polishing thread I used Autopia and there service is excellent. Read the feedback on them, they may be a few Dollars more expensive but many of us have ended up not having to pay import duty when using them were as many other sites you seem to get stung every time so you may be lucky. Even with import duty you wont be disappointed with the PC they are excellent value.

If you do use Autopia, do use my link so I get brownie points, last year I got a few free pads and cloths from people using the link and it would be great to get a new stock for Christmas!!! If you use the link directly and then purchase or use the Autopia Goldfish ebook they know it was me that got your obsession going!!

Linky http://store.yahoo.com/cgi-bin/clink?autopia+MBWu4u+index.html+

Ebook http://www.autopia-carcare.com/lib/autopia/goldfish.exe The e-book has loads of tips for fixing scratches, cleaning everything you can think of including the engine, chrome etc. It is updated regularly also.
