Boom!! How unlucky can you get?

Sorry if i was unclear Vlad - just 2 came out. As I think I've mentioned before one of the clamps had been welded in the past as opposed to just replacing it and this is where the thing went pop.

Could it be that this weak spot saved the engine from terminal damage?

I think you are an exceptional person,
You made an honest, genuine error of judgement, held up your hands to it and accepted the consequences of your actions.

I salute you but I guess that all those folks that submit posts recommending deceit, or lies when something might be their fault and they still seek redress, will think your silly.

Well done and hopefully, what goes around comes around.

Yours sincerely
John

Agreed, nice post John.

Thanks for the clarification...hope all works out

Couldn't agree more on that one!

Well said John, I couldn't agree more. Good luck to you Molesey for the satisfactory outcome that you richly deserve.

Thanks for the update Moylesey. Glad it turned out not too severely damaged.
All the best with the car. You never know, it might be an even better car once it's sorted.
Hope the experience has not affected you too adversely & the way you feel towards the car.

I'm quite looking forward to getting it back to be honest. It will be like the 'buying it' feeling all over again - I haven't given the car a going over since buying it and my wife hasn't even sat in the damned thing!

Loads of people have assumed I'll be keen to move it on but my reasons for buying it are still the same now as they were then. There are a few bits need doing which I'm looking forward to getting done and as you say hopefully the engine will be better not worse for all the work it has had done. The AMG alloys have already been refurbed and Pirelli'd and I cant wait to try my £170 key.

By the time I've settled everything up I could probably have had a new one - I certainly could have kept the CLK and used the money I'm going to spend on fuel but there's no point crying over spilled oil...

Wow - what a thread - I've just read this from start to finish - a salutary tale for all of us to bear in mind.

I hope your A class is fully sorted and the bill isn't too ruinously expensive!

Best of luck ;)

Edit
Made a whoopsie and posted on wrong thread

seconded 100%. Good on you.

........well done from me too. A very good example of moral conscience and sound values.
May the good Lord shine his torch on you.

thats a good post John... for once it isnt the traders fault!

Well done you.

I hate people who try and fob off their mistakes on others.

I have a clothing and footwear shop and I am amazed at the amount of people who bring back shoes after 6 months complaining that they have not worn well asking for a refund. Lightweight city shoes that have obviously been worn every day for work, going across wet fields and even covered in cement come back in with people saying their not happy.

Then you get people with fabric boots moaning that they have taken the dog over the fields in the rain and they have got soaking wet feet!! No **** Sherlock?
I reckon I get one person a week tell me that it is my responsibility to ask the customer what they are going to use the product for?? I try and explain that if they want a waterproof shoe it is their responsibility to ask for a waterproof shoe, they can't see this at all, I then ask them how would they feel if I started to question what they were going to be doing in the lingerie they were buying, then they get it.

Maybe I am too laid back when it comes to returning something, but we have to take responsibility for our own actions, I ignored the oil light as I was late once and only had 3 miles to go. £7k later I learnt my lesson.

I then ask them how would they feel if I started to question what they were going to be doing in the lingerie they were buying, then they get it.

Go on. We could have a special thread for the comments..;)

Some of the old girls that come in always say 'Oooh, are you going to measure me??' with a little chuckle, that makes me want to gag!! ;)

It Lives!

..but having got it running Star has identified a misfire caused by 2 duff fuel injectors so the engines in bits again while they are bought (£300 for 2!!) and installed.

But it got round the block and may be home soon - which is nice...

I will be using it to hold up a bank to get the money to pay the bill in due course.

Excellent news that it's running, and hopefully the end is in sight.

:D

You may want to wait until the injectors are fitted before doing the job, because firing on just two will mean that:

1. Your getaway will become a simple get "without" any "away"

2. It would be the shortest chase on Police, Camera, Action.

So wait until it's fixed so you can remain free to enjoy it's new lease of life, or at least go down in a blaze of glory!!

:D

Not Holding My Breath

I am glad you are close to getting the car back on the road and have been upfront with what happened.:) A couple of comments about it not being the seller's fault. One- who welded one of the injectors clamps instead of replacing it? ( does this botched repair give an insight to mechanical attitude of the seller  ) and two- was the car overfilled with oil before the poster took delivery. The poster has acted honorably which is to be applauded, but I wait to hear that the dealer has accepted any portion of blame for the situation which may have arisen from their mistake in the first place? I,m not holding my breath

Not feeling two grand..

..but the car is ready to pick up - I'm going along tomorow with my plastic card.

Another year older and deeper in debt...

Can anyone post a picture of a W168 A-class in silver so I'll know which one is mine at the garage?

Just and update on the money pit.

Eventually got a bill for all the engine work was a very reasonable £2,200. I also had to repair three alloys and replace four tyres, buy a new key as the old one was knacked and buy various plastic bits to repair both front seats.

Since then it's had various bulbs, a repair to the rear wash wipe, a new battery, two new injectors, a new air mass sensor and this morning the starter motor has packed in. I also kerbed the front alloy the day after it came back from being repaired.

I will own this car until I retire at this rate. I think I have now officially spent more on it than it cost.

MOT is in March - I'm expecting the CAT to be faulty - bound to be isn't it?

I wrote to the trader I bought the car off before Christmas and so far haven't had a reply which is a bit disappointing. He could have at least had the balls to tell me to sod off!

:)
