Boom!! How unlucky can you get?

I would get the veracity of the mileage investigated a bit more. You said it has a full service history- was that with Mercedes? Have you got all the relevant service paperwork. Don't just go by the service book stamps-- phone the garage who did the work to check the cars history. There seem to be an awful lot of components failing for a car which is supposed to have a full service history?

MOT is in March - I'm expecting the CAT to be faulty - bound to be isn't it?

Wouldn't matter if it was on a diesel, but it won't be anyway as they are more robust, simpler devices on diesels.

The only thing i can add is that when ever i go to buy a car i insist that its stone cold when i turn up and i always check the dipstick before starting it, firstly to get a good look at the colour of the oil and secondly and amount in it, many a 'recently serviced' car has turned out to have really dirty oil.

Good grief.... You haven't had much luck and I hate to say it, the starter motor+ replacement on a A Class is another big job.....I think I paid something like £450...
