Boot lock problem on SL500

Not sure where to post this - interior, exterior, electronics?

Anyhow, I noticed yesterday that my boot lid does not seem to lock when the car is locked via the remote.
The car is an '00 regd 129 SL500.

I've checked the operating manual, and the actual lock is in the correct position (ie vertical). It can be set to horizontal in which position it is permanently locked.
However, I want it to lock/unlock via the remote.

Any ideas if I'm doing something wrong, or what the fix is?

Can you here the actuator working when you press the remote while standing by the boot?

Does the lock operate from the key operated central locking? i.e. if you lock the car using the key from the door does the boot lock too?
