Does anyone know how the close assist mechanism actually works on the W140 1998 model?

I've been having issues with the pump, it was pretty iffy but I only ever use the drivers door and I just have to remember I have to give it a bit of a slam.

But I had to use the boot yesterday quite a bit and it stopped pulling the boot closed by itself, usually if this happens I could pull out the fuse and this would reset everything and it would close down itself again.

But now it's not working at all and I can't close the boot properly it is letting water in which isn't ideal.

Does anyone know actually how to manually lock it down properly?
I've done a google search but no helpful result.

I think I might have to get another pump now then, unless you have any other tips? I just need to get the boot closed, it is seldom I actually use it!

Thanks!

From what I've read there are 2 pump systems on this car.

The boot mechanism isn't linked to the soft close door pump/lumbar bladders, it is run from the central locking pump. It might even be out of adjustment. There are quite a lot of threads on this matter it is just I was searching using the wrong words.

the vacuum c/l pump (pse) runs the latch (and the handle that pops out). The soft close pulls the bootlid down once it has latched, same as the doors.
If the boot isnt locking at all it is PSE related not soft-close.
the v12 uberalles site is awesome.

Boot tongue removal
