Boot not locking on 1998 E300 TDi estate

Hi, saw some posts similar to this but not exactly the same I think. for some time now, not sure how long, the boot door does not lock when the car is locked using the remote. I noticed this because I tried to open the boot last week, it opened and the alarm sounded. I did have the brake light in the rear window(estate) changed a few months back, maybe they diconnected something by accident? thanks in advance.

It could be your key has been reprogrammed. From memory, you can program your key to unlock drivers door with one push and all door with two. There maybe a program that needs two pushes to lock the boot or something, its a few years ago I read this, but should be in your manual.

Check the vacuum pipe. It will not be anything to do with the key since it locks all the other doors.
