Bose and Harmon Kardon

In my c180k i have Bose and i`m happy. No probs so far. I have Bose mk3 on my desktop and mk10 in my living.
The best sound i`ve ever heard was in Audi S8( 08 ) powered by B&W...amazing indeed. :)

are you sure it wasnt bang and olufsen and not Bowers and Wilkins?

The best at the moment seems to be the Naim Audio system thats being fitted into the bentley continental range.

I must say the best I have heard in a car is Mark Levinson in a Lexus. Would I have to go in a corner and repeat several Hail Marys for mentioning that here?

Would have to agree with this. Never heard anything quite like it.

An acquaintance has just ordered a Jaguar XF Luxury. I 've booked a first drive as soon as he can let someone else behind the wheel. I'll be checking out the hifi.

Mark levinson is owned by harman and so is harman kardon and JBL etc etc. Its just as good as a logic 7 :) imho :)

Bang & Oluffsen indeed!

fuzzer, I can`t compair bentley with Audi S8 , can i ?:) Heard good things about that Naim system too :) I`ll never buy a flashy car, its just not me. I`m the modest guy. Was looking for a e320cdi sport in tealite blue but no chance. Driven one for 2 weeks and wasn`t too impressed. The sound system was HK and loved it.
Now i`m after a w204 petrol as i don`t like diesel cars. C350 with HK will make me happy :)

Best in car stereo I've ever heard is the B&O System that you can get on the new A8. That is just amazing, sounds like nothing else the quality is awesome and the volume it can go to is completetly unusable.

And it cost a wopping £4,405 as an option.
but if your buying an A8 anyway I guess you can afford it?

Done a test drive yesterday with an A8(57 reg). Bang&O system factory fitted and every possible extra. Price = £ 25k .
That sound system it`ll blow you away and it`s the same as in S8.

As a sound engineer in a former life, my opinion is that from the E Class upwards the sound systems in current Mercedes are all good. I have no plans to upgrade the standard system in my S or ML.
In the same way that a suit from M&S in good, 90% of folks will not think the step up to the 'Austin Reed' level of B&O and HK is worth the extra outlay allthough it is a distinct improvement. The Mark Levinson in the Lexus is very fashionable but slightly plastic and American sounding to my ears, but the step up to B&W or Naim is really in the Gieves and Hawkes class.
Lots of money, but worthwhile for the few who really appreciate the ultimate.
We all drive Mercedes don't we so we do like the finer things in life?:dk:

The Naim system costs £4,840. Personally, i would take it over the B & O any day of the week, there equipment is usally some of the best you can buy without getting into the seriously silly stuff.

Maybe I've missed something but naim are doing car audio...:dk:

Use Naim at home and really enjoy it, but has a very characteristic way of presenting music. Naim = love or hate

I would describe the Bose system in the W140 s class as good and in the 220 as barely adequate. The two systems just aren't in the same league. Both by Bose, both in s-class's.

I guess Bose gave it their all for their first opportunity and then haven't spent half as much in R&D for different cars and Mercedes have given HK an opportunity.

I'm doubtful if we would have HK as an option had it not been for bose slacking off.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again - bose / B&O = hifi for the deaf. Style over substance. To get a decent sounding B&O home system you have to spend 15-20 grand, and it's no better sound quality wise than a couple of grand in high quality components. Looks cool though.

To get a good sounding bose system you can ebay it to some other mug and then buy some real audio components.

As for in car - Bose get the effect of good sound by heavy DSP processing to create the psychoacoustic effects of space and adding time correction (something left out of most systems) - you can get similar results by fading out the rear speakers in most systems. The other two psychoacoustic effects that Bose have to a fine art are the "it says bose it must be good" effect, and the "it was £1000 extra, it must be good" effect. Better sound by marketing.

Harman are a proper audio company, owning Becker, JBL, HK, Infinity and many other brands, and having real audio engineers making things sound good. The other factory upgrades I respect are Linn (aston) B&W (aston) and Dynaudio (volvo) - other than that most are just of the big amp and lots of DSP type upgrade. The dynaudio system in the old shape Volvo C70 is brilliant.

I'd like to upgrade my stereo system to maybe the HK or the Bose. Can it be done to a 06 w203?Any reccomendations who the experts are in this field to do this type of work?

In an 06 W203 it would be HK. Bose was for the D2B cars, yours is MOST.
