I'm looking to get my callipers resprayed in a nice bright yellow with the AMG logos refitted under a coat or two of clearcoat.

I actually had the car booked into a bodyshop this week to get the front bumper resprayed along side the 4 callipers however, after speaking to a MB specialist he advised not to allow them to remove the callipers as you need to go onto STAR/SBC and let the computer know otherwise they can be damaged.

Needless to say they are now only doing the bumper.

Now I can get the car booked into to have the callipers removed but my question is. Should I send them to a specialist company to rebuild and repaint them or just send them off to the bodyshop as I originally intended?

As previous they work fine but I want a finish that will last even though it's not doing daily trips or even a lot of mileage.

If I'd be better sending them off for refurbishment and can recommend a company, please let me know.

These are the last items on my 'aesthetic' upgrades. Then the real fun begins under the hood...

Brake Caliper Refurbishment homepage

Try these guys they are very highly regarded, I to am looking at spraying mine red, and would not let a body shop touch them as they would only mask them up and not do as good a job as some one like a specialist in my opinion.

The other thing would be where to leave the car for 7 days!! That is my issue. The East Ham place looks interesting as they are in London.

With regards to the Merc advisor, all that would need to be done is a reset with anyone with a STAR machine so not something that's to much of a concern.

Let me know where you go and where you are leaving your car for a week, not the address obviously lol

Pro Calipers look very appealing due to being specialists in Brembos and have all the original seal kits etc, should they be required. Price is very good too and being powder coating you know it will stand the test of time.

Regarding dropping the car off, I'm going to have a word with a few local garages/body shops and see if anyone will be happy to store the car on axel stands for a while.

I have just had confirmation, the STAR thing is complete BS. The brakes get bled like any other so that makes finding a shop to remove/refit them a lot easier. :D

Thanks for the link! was looking for someone closer to me.

Are they good ?

Would powder coating stand up to the heat generated from heavy breaking (like a track day)? The original callipers can turn yellow after heavy breaking

The factory callipers care powder coated so they may discolour slightly. However, as I want mine done in high gloss yellow the yellowing may be less of an issue! :D

The bonus of powder coating is the fact it is very durable whereas paint a bodyshop use will chip easier and once that starts its going to be down hill from there.

The discs and pads are going to be the hottest parts so I'd imagine under most normal circumstances the callipers will be fine with powder coating but can only try and find out I suppose...
