If called on to "Brake Testing" some Mo-Fo when out on D'Highway, sould you go for a slight touch for a second or so, or a full on slam on for five?

I find rolling down the window and pointing a 12 bore backwards is equally effective ;)

What ever teeks yer fency cahboy.

My Vauxhall Viva had reversing lights operated by a switch on the dash - flicking those on at night usually made anyone behind test their brakes ;) :D

Left foot , gentle touch on the brake , just enough to light the bulbs , while stamping on the gas with the right ;)

Hypothetically speaking of course.

I would never do such a thing in real life.

Is it wine o'clock yet?

(I'm on t'other side of the pond at the mo - still late afternoon here....)

That depends on how many of my biker mates I have with me at the time.

While I have on occasion just touched the pedal enough to bring on the brake lights without actually braking , on many newer cars even this will cut power despite maintaining constant pressure on the accelerator , or in any car will disengage cruise control if you are using it , so I tend not to do it if it risks being rear-ended .

If I have someone following closer than I am comfortable with , and I am passing slower traffic on a multi lane road I will move over and let them go when a suitable gap appears , however I won't inconvenience myself in order to do this ; they can wait until I find a gap in the near side lane that does not involve sacrificing my own rate of progress .

If it is on a single lane road , or they are getting impatient , I sometimes find that using my screenwashers a few times , which sprays water onto their car , sometimes makes them drop back .

The other tactic , on a single carriageway , if following other traffic , is just to ease off a little so as to create a gap in front and allow them to overtake . If they can't overtake because of oncoming traffic , slowing down slightly can just wind them up until the steam comes out of their ears . I then just ignore them and let their stress levels go through the roof while I remain calm .

No braking, foot off accelerator. There are more than enough donkeys who drive mesmerised by the rear of the car in front. Easily spotted because they are ones braking all the time or panic braking.

Don't do it; it might be Nutter Turbo Psycho B*****d behind you. Just move over when you can and let them go.

Take your foot off the gas & move over, don't put your foot back on the gas till they overtake. A few times I've come to a complete halt! :):)

+1 There are so many nutters on the roads and such activity simply raises the bar. What the chances of such a person being calmed by brake testing :fail

I had an old Renault diesel a while back, I found that sropping a gear and flooring it created an excellent cloud of black smoke.

Add a good wash of the windscreen, and grease theirs..:)

Just be careful as to what vehicle you drive... I've been rear-ended while riding a motorbike by a moron that was driving too close...

That said, I do find that a mis-aligned windscreen washer is usually the best option...

I think if someone's an idiot then there's no need to rise to it.

I've seen a car get rammed and then pushed halfway down a street with hitting nearly everycar parked by the one behind due to some road rage.

I usually lift off gently then accelerate gently, oscillating speed by about 8 mph,it's imperceptible why to the tailgater but hilarious watching them get massively frustrated with themselves hammering into the developing space then hitting the brakes hard.
Normally after a few goes they drop back.
