Budget tomorrow

I agree. The system is wrong. So how do we change it? From where I'm sitting we realistically only have two (or just, three) choices of actually getting a goverment. Voting for ABC party with 5 possible MPs for example isn't going to make a scrap of difference is it. It surely is wrong for one party to dominate for 13 or more years. Look at what happened to Maggie! Too much time in power is a bad thing. So, we need a new goverment. But look at the choice!! Revolution time? :D

Absolutely revolution time.

Unfortunately, too late. Entrenched power has one hell of a home field advantage, and when you get Murdoch and the rest on your side you've all but won.

The very idea of revolution even being possible would be alien to 99.9999% of the population, including most of the 1m+ people who marched against the war. People are comfortable, invested in the system and too reliant on their incomes (think 'owning your council home' was a philanthropic venture?) to get out there and actually say, "you don't represent me and I reject your system".

Still, the thought of a million people marching on Downing Street makes me happy, and never say never.

Absolutely agree!! Fingers are firmly crossed that apathy, one day, won't be the norm! :)

Sing a song of parliament, pockets full of cash.
Fraudulently claiming, and adding to their stash.
With their ploy discovered, they said they'd give it back.
If you or i had done the same, we'd promptly get the sack.

Sing a song of freebies, snouts all in the trough.
Giving back their ill-got gains is just not good enough.
Sponging off our earnings, with a likely tale.
If working folk had done the same, they'd soon end up in jail.

Sing a song of fraudsters, counting out their money.
They smile and look quite unashamed, as though they think it's funny.
Sittng in a secret place, counting out their dosh;
On plugs for baths and cleaning moats, for crisps and orange squash.

Sing a song of MP's, who took us for a ride.
It's up to us at election time, their future to decide.
It's gone too far to bring back trust, of anyone in power.
To most of us they'll always be a really great big shower.
(And a bunch of crooks).

100m for roads.... which will go to local councils... who will spend it on whatever they fancy. Hint: not roads.

STOP fixing symptoms and start fixing problems, dammit. Make it the contractors' responsibility to do a proper job, make them financially responsible for any future repair deemed to be caused solely by their right to go around digging up our roads. And don't throw £100m of OUR money at it and then expect us to thank you.

As for all the "I can't wait for a conservative government", give me a break - what's different about Dave from PR? Nada.

I never understood why councils don't impose conditions of planning permission to resurface the roads they have damaged building whatever it is they are building.

Just the heavy plant traffic and deliveries alone are enough to destroy some roads, which we are then stuck with when they finish.

The cost would be negligible in the whole scheme of things to the developer and it would ultimately save councils £millions.

Or is that too much like sensible joined up thinking!
