I have recently just made my first step into the Mercedes world & bought a 1990 (H) W126 series Merc 300SE & had her LPG converted, she is a one owner vehicle & only ever been used as a wedding car. She seems to be a fine example but is let down by blistering & slight rusting on the Chrome bumper inserts. I believe this is a common problem, Can anyone please point me in the right direction regarding where these can be purchased & if they are expensive ? or does anyone know anyone who rechromes or reconditions these ? as im a new user i'd like to say thanks for a great forum & any help would be greatly appreciated !...kind regards DALE

I bet anywhere that can chrome stuff can do it for you, there must be an engineering company in your area that can chrome things, no need to take it to a car or mercedes specialist. Other members should be able to confirm this! :)

Hi,

I have a W126 (which my father originally bought from brand new - its mostly garaged and only comes out during nice weather/special occassions and is in showroom condition with under 22 000 original miles....) - u have to be carful keeping the crome clean - i.e. wash itbefore it gets too dirty so that is does not get stained/cloudy. Once u`ve got the chrome restored/replaced make sure u wash the road salt ASAP otherwise that will start corrosion...

Have u got mud flaps fitted ? - that will help to recduce bit of spray getting onto the side chrome trim on the rear bumper...

What colour is urs in ?

im the same my rear drivers side side chrome is far to gone and lets the car down and is slowly strating to go on the full length of the rear bumper because of the rear side length how much am i looking at to replace the rear side length of chrome

Genuine ones are around £75.00 each so if there in reasonable condtion it might be cheaper to re chrome the ones you have. I think a heavy dose of underseal on the reverse prolongs the life of these, bearing in mind most are around 20 years old now.

ok thanks 6pot alltho i tink new or allmost new one i will have to get as its lost its curve as due to rust bubbles and spliting the chrome

just seen them ian i will be sending him a very quick msg haha
