Hello,

I used to use these boards all the time, but defected to Audi about 4 years ago! I currently own a S4 Avant (4.2 V8) but am thinking of moving on for a number of reasons.

At times I miss my old merc, having had a look at what’s available facelift W210's are looking like a bit of a bargain. I looked at a couple of W211's and to be honest they felt smaller on the inside and I don’t think justify the extra cost at the moment. In any case I think I prefer an estate.

I'd like to reduce my fuel bills (and environmental impact) but don’t want a slow car, happy with a diesel with plenty of torque so the E320 CDI looks like the car/engine for me.

I am aware of the rust issue (previously owned a couple of 202's, one rusted badly, one was fine), what is the current thinking on this?? Are some colours better than others, are the rust issues generally resolved, am I better to look for a car under 8 years old and pay a bit more or should I save my money buying an older car and risk having to pay for repairs?

What else should I watch out for? Are there any specific options I should seek out?

Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks

Paul

Have now looked at a couple of cars and find mysefl in a bit of dilema.....

What's the better investment, a 9 year old 150K mile for ~£6k or a 6 year old 100K mile for closer to £11K? Both have lots of toys, both look clean.

Any thoughts??

£11000 seems a lot for a 6 year old with 100K miles on it

My experience with the rust issue has been positive in the sense that my dealer (Tony Purslow) has been very helpful is sorting out the well documented issues (wings and rear boot latch). However, there are plenty of posts on this forum from people who have had different experiences.

My advice would be to make sure your purchase has a full Mercedes service history and maintain it but at the same time find yourself a good indie. I've also been very well supported by Olly at Prestige Car Services and thoroughly recommend him.

For all their problems, I think the 320 CDI is a marvellous car with a great engine. Enjoy that torque!
