Not sure i've heard the sound you describe on upshift near the red-line, but that is more to do with the fact I rarely get a chance to get up there (and up until Monday this week I had rear tyres who looked like the late Telly Savalas's head - so hard and sustained acceleration was almost impossible on damp roads). In fact I'd say for the 1st 2 years of ownership of my c63, it was literally just an oversized musical instrument, I used to drive it mostly to try and get as many pops and bangs out of the exhaust all the time for my immature childish amusement. S+ was my favourite mode for that. Also revving it hard towards the red line and shifting would cause a huge whip like bang. Though from a pops and bangs perspective it had nothing on the 2017 Gla, which was just on another level. I need to get my w212 sorted ASAP, it has some catching up to do on the noise front though the engine seems to have a lot of talent for making a huge racket
Of course, i'm now going to see if I can hear said noise when I got out later tonight - would be rude not to I like you have had random people ask me to rev it, notably a teenager at a bus stop whilst I was queuing in traffic. They really are a special car, even though they don't look exotic, people who know what they are really appreciate them.
