I'm looking at buying one in the next few weeks and wondering what's best.Limited budget to go on so I'm looking at possibly a refurb.I've seen an Ipod video 30gig refurb on the UK apple website at £120 but missed out on it.Seen some in the US at the same price but they are 60 gig which is better. Will it be worth considering importing from the US or sticking with UK versions or go second hand from somewhere like classified or fleabay? Cheers for any input:D

I couldn't advise on best place to go secondhand but I do know that I am well pleased with my 60Gb video. I've got more than 7,000 tracks on it, loads of podcasts and we use it with a Bose sound-dock in place of the old hi-fi. However you take the plunge you won't regret it. I'd heartily reccommend the sound dock as well.

I have the 30gb Video and soundock too. Absolutely love it.

I got my 3g iPod through Apple's recon service have no complaints with that service at all. Got the Video through Amazon though for a great price.

I'd be wary about getting one of Ebay as you never know if there's anything wrong with it so I'd only go 2nd hand from someone I knew.

MacWorld 2007

Don't forget Macworld is on in January, traditionally when new Apple products are announced.

You might find something more suitable or at the least refurbished prices of existing kit will drop as a result of new models.

I have a 60Gb Video which I bought in the US last Christmas when they were first launched - I bought it with the iPOD global warranty - "touch wood" haven't needed it at all.

I also bought the iPOD SKIN case for it - which is a rubber case with a plastic front - protectes it perfectly.

60Gb one is a wee bit thicker than the 30Gb - both have the same functionality - run with iTunes on your pc - get firmware and siftware updates through iTunes and USB connection.

Loads of additional software available for them, must haves include CUCUSOFT, and iPOD agent... though these are not available from any ipod reseller... ;o)

I have loads of family videos and fotos on it as well using 40Gb of it as a hard drive.

Hope this helps !

Probably wait till the new year as it sounds they might get reduced in price for newer models.I was going to get the 80gig model, as at least 2 people I know have just had one.But as my luck hasn't held out that well, some of the funds have now been diverted to buying a new hifi :( .

Warning
If you intend buying second-hand be aware these things are sometimes NOT backward compatible.

We bought my daughter an iPod two years ago (Version 3)

For Christmas this year she wanted the radio attachment. No problem, me being me ordered one from Amazon :o :o

Wife and daughter have now returned home from Lincolnshire and I have just been told this attachment only works with version five iPods???  I have logged onto the iPod site and it appears there is no way the older models can be upgraded, so be aware.

Good luck with the decision,
John

This is a common issue with iPods. You simply have to know which generation and model you have so that you order the right one ;)

Just as a thought- I have an Archos. It plays videos, shows photos, plays all my music...................then it records TV programs from my freeview box, runs a scheduler while I'm on holiday to record programmes I miss, it can even change TV channels by using its own internal IR transmitter. It is quiet simply an amazing machine:) oh an its a hard drive for transferring stuff!

I too have archos - for video playback its a crackin little gizmo.

I used Amazon.co.uk to buy my 80gb ipod, its on for a good price, £220.

Well we bit the bullet and bought our daughter the iPod Video. Ordered yesterday evening with engraving; arrived 1pm the next day.

I wonder how many days it will be before a new iPod gadget comes out that is not backwards compatible.

John the soft touch

Great prices - just remember that unless you bought additional cover - the US gurantees are only 90days.

Additionally, I think you may have jumped on the PS3 too quickly, as there are still too many bugs etc... but regionalisation issues.

However, I have had my iPOD, Nintendo's, etc and all have been perfect for over a year and half - so the savings will be enjoyed. :D

Do get the ipod Skin EVO3 - like this one in a colour of your choice - it really does protect your ipod and works very well...

Can someone give me the URL to this Apple refurb site?

I'm struggling to not buy an Ipod...and failing!
It might also be worth phoning as they will let you know what is available, and how much.

Regards,
John
