C class w205 a service

There is a possibility that some schedules have changed slightly in the past year or so, however, for many years the standard servicing has been based on mileage/years, annually or every 15,500 miles, whichever comes first:
Annual oil/filter
Every 2 years (or 31,000 miles) - pollen filter, brake fluid
Every 3-years (or 46,500 miles) - clean lubricate panoramic roof
Every 4-years (or 62,000 miles)- air filter, fuel filter (diesel), spark plugs (petrol)
Every 5-years (or 77,500 miles) - gearbox fluid change (but has varied over the years with varying boxes)

Coolant was, and may still be, every 15 years. Some petrol cars with in-tank fuel filters were/are every 15-years

In addition, usual checks on brakes/suspension/ tyres etc

I think that covers most things. Sometimes cars seem to be set up on the onboard service system as c16,000miles 'to next service', rather than 15,500 miles (ie 25,000km, which is obviously what MB specified originally).

I have heard, but not seen, that some might recently have changed, ie perhaps plugs every 3- years but that was a non-Uk market and may not be applicable in UK.

Personally, I change filters more often than specified, some air-filters look really grubby after c20,000 miles, let alone 70,000.
It seems more important to me to change spark plugs early than filters, am I wrong ? Thank you 🙏🏻

Spark plugs are platinum iridium so good for lots of miles.

Time interval is to prevent them corroding and getting stuck in the cylinder head

We had a Toyota Previa for over 20 years. Changing the spark plugs is an engine-out job. We bought it new in 1997, and scrapped in 2021. It lived and died with the original factory-fitted NGK Iridium spark plugs... and never missed a beat.

I am not suggesting that spark plugs shouldn't be changed at the prescribed intervals. I am simply supporting the idea that modern Iridium spark plugs can last forever, but they do need to be replaced to avoid seizing.

Engine out to change spark plugs!!??? Automotive design at its best!!! :D

This design does have its merits... it's a flatish engine that lives under the front seats, with access to the oil cap and dipstick via a hatch under the driver's seat.

It makes for a very roomy cabin, without losing space to an engine at the front.

The W169 is also a pain to change plugs for similar reasons....but at least the engine stays in!!....you do have to lower it to fit a new aux belt tensioner though....ask me how I know!!!

Funny buddy (I do have a petrol CLK as well )
