C124 hit a hundred K today..

Can anybody supply me with part numbers/price for the following:

Charcoal filter
engine mounts
gearbox mounts

My VIN is WDB1240422C228694

cheers.

so anybody able to get the above info via EPC ?^^

Surely a call to an MB Dealer will give you the info you need on the parts, but don't forget those cross joints they are cheap and will make a fair bit of difference to how it travels.

Interesting write up on the engine timing, I think the late model cars had this automatically adjusted by the ECU, but I must take the time to have a read.

The little electronic adjuster on my car is a fuel mixture adjuster.

WDB..are you North or South Isalnd?

In one of the pics on the 2 page of this thread are you on the wrong side of the road but still driving?

the switch thing is easy....that's the Run the Possum over B&*St&$rd switch..the word Possum is interchangeable with Aussie I believe;)

so how do you mean fuel mixture adjuster? to make it run rich or lean?

also cross joints? you mean those bushings??

Love those possums, and fir from them. With all the 1080 about now it seems the Hedgehogs have become the latest Falcon food. Very dangerous now in the country when you come around a corner and see a Falcon on the road after a dead Possum or Hog. More than one has meet their match on the windscreens and they make a mess let alone giving you a fright.

By the way I'm NOT on the wrong side of the road, believe me.

This is the North Island West Coast, but you have a very keen eye, and it does look just a little like the South Island in some parts.

But anyway, this is Billys thread and he needs his parts and a plan going forward......

Cross joints is what some people here call them but yes those little bushes.

The fuel can be adjusted rich or lean, anticlockwise makes it leaner, clockwise makes it richer. Very handy if I know I'm going in the mountains and lovely to be able to adjust an older car to set it up spot on.

I was thinking South Island below Hokitika (though maybe 3 lanes and no railway should have told me otherwise)....hey ho..so that's a pic out of the rear with you heading south in the late evening or north early morning (my money is on the former).. think I understand now with sun angle et al.

what's 1080..a type pf poison?

back on topic..I thought there was a spring that controlled the "twitch/bounce" on the MPH dial; can anyone confirm???

I didn't know about a spring sounds handy if there is one.......

The Sun will confuse when in the Southern Hemishere. It always takes me sometime to get my head around this when I'm in the Northern Hemisphere. The shot was taken about mid day heading NNW. The Sun would be slightly in the West by then.

1080 is a poison, bit of a nasty reputation though.

You know NZL very well, did you spend some time here....

Forum playing up so have had a mare trying to post.

LINK

there is the K1 K2 thing.

vis a vie the pic..was that you going NNW; shot facing rearwards or out of the windscreen? One always forget how much NZ is on a cant.

with regards to NZL I have been a few times andd I think the place is the dogs do dars...should have bought the place for £90K in Kaikoura (5 storey; split level affair with 3 sided balcony overlooking valley, 120 hectares) when I had the chance:rolleyes:.

Ask me where is the one place in the world where I could retire to?...but stop felling the f&*king trees..you are ruining the place

My goodness my mistake, NNE is where the car is heading. About 200 meters South of the intersection of SH 3 and Totoro Road.

There's not a lot a native forest tree felling going on now. It is still a good place to retire to, but the country has changed so much for the young people, we have squeezed all the financial life from them. They are not going to get ahead in NZL unless they leave. Pity, but that's what happens when you sell your Country.

I thought you were referring to the speedo spring to stop the wobble.

I have put in the trannie kit on 88844 and it works well except it likes to shift quickly through third (only) now. Does anybody know why??

I know they are just a temp fix for a rebuild; at 200,000ks I am getting my monies worth wouldn't you say. You must get the modulating pressure correct, very important. There is a gauge the MB dealers have to measure this.

I think Billy was out for a drive tonight, I'd like to know where he ended up, hopefully not on the sofa!!

Thanks Graeme, interesting point with the engine mounting, isnt one mount slightly different to the other? cant remember which one left or right, but IIRC one of them is slightly different? could be wrong.

..engine rear support i.e. gear box mount?

No both mounts exactly the same according to the EPC [ except for the air con thing=heavier engine+ancilliaries] the " engine" rear support is on the gear box cross member
ps the engine mounts can be different on some models [e.g. diesels] . This may be to compensate for extra engine torque or weight-- but not on this relatively light petrol engine.

cheers for confirming, yes i thought this as im assuming upon acceleration the engine would tend to 'dip' on one side, so thinking one of the mounts would be more dampened than the other if that makes sense.

im going to look to change these in my next service.

While we are on the topic of the rear engine support, i think this might be on the way out.

I say this because when upon braking i get a jerky feel when comming to a stop (ive ruled out warped discs etc as i dont think its that) this is further backed up perhaps as i can see the actual gear lever rock in the same movement as the car is doing so upon coming to a halt.

This is most noticable on low speed halts rather than higher speed ones i.e. when comming of a m-way junctions. Its almost like there is no damping and as the car is doing low speed any way when it occurs there is not much weight transfer as opposed to a high speed halt as mentioned where the weight transfer would be more almost 'squashing' the mount already.

..well that my theory any way.

This could very well be the gear box mount i suspect which is causing the jerkyness.

^^^^^^:dk:

Engine mounts include gear box mounts, do all of them at the same time for the best result.

for sure they'll be done together but just wondering if it is the gear box mount that is making the car jerk as it may be shot.

maybe someone has experienced this or can confirm symptoms of a shot gear box mount.
