Hi. I have a 2001 mercedes C220 CDI. my 3 button key fob has seen better days and is basically falling apart. If i bought another key fob (from ebay) does anybody know how to retune/programme it so it opens/locks my car and allows me to start it? Also does the key fob have to be a certain fob or can it be any 3 button mercedes key fob (amg style chrome one) thanks alot

Buy a new shell on eBay and transfer the PCB from your broken shell to the new one.
See… items in FOB KEY BANK store on eBay!

Second hand keys such as those sold on eBay can’t be reprogrammed to your car.

What’s actually wrong with your fob?

Hi there, thanks for your help. My shell is kind of breaking/opening down one side and when i bought it i didnt get the small key that slots into the shell and the last thing i want is the fob falling apart in my pocket and not being able to enter or start my car.

How easy is it to transfer the insides of my fob to a blank one? Thanks

If you only have the one key and the batteries fail then without the metal blade you will not be able to get in to your car anyway.

New keys from MB are around £220, if you carry out a search on here then you will find some companies that will come to you and program a new key with blade for around £195.

If you go to your MB dealer armed with your VIN number and proof of car ownership and ID the will cut a new key blade, I have no idea of the cost?
When you get the key ensure your door and boot lock is in working order and not seized up.

Is your key fob type A or type B as in picture below?

Type A, see… Mercedes Keyless Shell Change (Destructive Method) - YouTube

Type B, see… Open Mercedes Key FOB (Old type) - YouTube

I think the key is around £25, I also thought that the key as well as the fob have to be ordered from Germany?
