Over the last 3000 miles my E-Class220CDI has got 47 MPG as you see from the photo you can get much more, A little boring driving at 70mph but this car is just as boring at 90
So what the manufacturers 'official' mpg for this car,say combined and lets say extra urban,it seems a very good mpg indeed - would consider a future purchase,if I thought my car could return that milage.
Thanks.
Alex
Yesterday I did the same trip from Bristol to Sunderland. I filled the car with Shell Optimax diesel, put some Millers in and checked the tyre pressures before leaving.
Ran the car in "W" mode all the way up and didn't use cruise at all. Got stuck in 3 jams which involved quite a lot of walking pace driving. When not in a jam it was steady 70 mph all the way.
I was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the trip computer at the end of the journey.
I'm also now averaging 43-45 mpg on the run I regularly do from Bristol to Shepton Mallet down the A37.

Is yours the face lifted car, I see your car is doing 120kmph @ 2k revs which is 75mph. Mine by that speed would be reving at 2.5k rpm as its has a 30mph/1000rpm top gear with 60mph being achieved at 2k revs. Yours will have taller gearing than mine.
I find the OP's new MPG much more credible, their original post was a tad low and more in line with the heavier 211s MPG with the same engine.
All I can put the improvement down to on the local runs is the change in driving technique. Regularly checking the tyre pressures is the only other thing I've started doing.
I've not used the Optimax or Millers when doing these journeys.
I think driving technique gives a fairly easy 20% variance for mpg, especially with a turbodiesel as drivers use the additional torque without realising it.
