Hi Guys,

Which oil is recommended for a C220 Sport 2008 W204?

I have been recommended Mobil 1 5w30 ESP Formula but my car does not have a DPF and was wondering will the Mobil 1 New Life 0W40 be better or the Mobil 1 0W40 Turbo Diesel?

Also which spec is the correct one MB229.5?

All replies much appreciated.

Regards,

AKH

Either 229.5 or 229.51 if it does not have DPF.

229.51 (low ash) if it does.

Scroll down to 229.5 and 229.51 and open the PDF file for a list of oils approved by MB.

Alternatively, you can get any oil that the manufacturer classified as 'meets or exceeds' MB Spec 229.5 or 229.51 (which means the manufacturer did not submit the oil to MB for testing but they are declaring that it meets the specifications).

....or just buy Mercedes Benz branded oil with the relevant spec - they are very competitively priced.

Thanks for the replies. Will using the Mobil 1 5w30 ESP Formula which is the 229.51 specifications for cars which have a DPF have any drawbacks such as excessive oil consumption or anything else?

229.51 can be used in engines with or without DPF.

Used mobile life 0-40 229-5 as no DPF on my W204 diesel, now using Halfords 5-40 synthetic 229-3 as there was a special offer on. No effect on mpg oddly and heaps less expensive the Mobil 1

Best place for oil is Costco though, much cheaper for the Mobil than Halfords
