I have had my 2010 C250cdi Auto now for 4 months, its road tax time!

I was always under the impression that the car was £170 for its annual road tax, I have just had the DVLA reminder and it stated £190?

Could this be wrong? I have tried a number of sites but its all very confusing.

I also have the 18" wheels if this makes a difference?

Thanks

I have one as a courtesey car at the moment, will have a look at the disc for you.

Yes - tyres/wheels can make a difference.

And with all the model variations and cahnges by manufacturers it's very very confusing now when you're trying to look things up.

It doesnt sound right, as mine is also the Blue efficiency model.

Afternoon.

I have a 2010 C Class saloon, 250cdi BE Auto. I have just replaced the road tax on my car, I can Confirm it was £170 pounds for 12 months. My car has the standard 17" AMG wheels though.

Hope that helps.

Greg

I have read all the original reviews of that car and they do confirm the auto is £170. I cant see the wheels increasing it by so much !

Thanks Gregb

On the W203 (my car) if you have the sport package fitted - that includes 17" rims and wider tyres. That raises it into the tax band ABOVE the standard car without the sports pack.
So wheels/tyres can and do make a difference - specially when the standard model emissions are close to the next band up.

As the law stands at the moment, your car is placed in a specific tax band when it came out the factory new. That tax band stays with the car throughout its life - even if you later add massive tyres and swap the 1.8 litre 4 pot for a 6 litre V8.
That's the way it is now - but I can see that changing at some point in the future.

So your emissions are a little higher then mine, and your car is roughly 3-4 older then mine. Maybe Merc tweaked emmisions during this period of time which lowered the tax band of later cars. I am shocked if it is the larger diameter wheel that makes the difference. I am sure someone on here with more Mercedes motoring knowledge can confirm what the case may be.

Just looked at the disc in my loan car, £66 for 6 months, C250 CDI Blueefficiency.

Just had a look in the original spec / extras brochuer for my car and it says my car has 183 CO2 but add the AMG wheels that it has and it goes to 191 CO2. So if the car was close to the top end of group, wheels could push it over in to the next group..

Yes it is, amg with pan roof, auto and 18" upgrade.

I successfully challenged DVLA and I think VOSA on VW Tiguan road tax issue once I had identified and VW UK confirmed and had revised its rating. VW UK sent me a letter which I forwarded to DVLA and this reduced my payable road tax back in 2009 by some £30.00 plus if I recall? Moral although it shoul;d not be necessary if in doubt always check that manufactuer and in fact DVLA have agreed the correct emission and related taxation figures for each model and year of car.
