C300d (2019) first service

He had all that done for £218

It's £280... but why not?

A low-cost indie might do the B service for say £220 and the brake fluid for say £60?

I agree that would be very cheap, but surely not impossible?

Perfectly plausible - oil and filter, pollen filter and brake fluid change. £100 ish in parts + £100 ish labour. Just shows how much the overheads for the big glass buildings and coffee area costs.

I agree that's it's feasible, but I think you have not included a time allocation for the Schedule B inspection, that's around 30-45 minutes of the tech's time (on top of the labour for replacing the engine oil and filter, the cabin filter, and the brake fluid). I recond they do all of the above in 90 minutes,

And there's also Mobilo and the anti-rust warranty to consider, but even so this does not get close to £480 (the lowest cost under a Care Plan).

He states £218.

Doubt it !

What reason would I possibly have to lie? Ok, I didn't have the brake fluid change because it was replaced last winter (following an incident, not a regular change). I should have of course stated that in my post, however it is technically separate to the core service anyway.

As for this service:

£14 -oil filter
£37 -air filter
£65 -oil
£16 -dust filter
£50 -labour
+VAT

A workshop charging a reasonable price for work done rather than a random % of the value of the car that they think they can get away with. Whilst it looks ridiculously cheap when compared with the MD prices the workshop that did this service has made money on the oil and parts on top of the £50 labour so there was probably overall a £100 value to the business for 90 ca minutes work.

The £50 labour leaves very very tight margin.

The inspection part of Service B alone is 30-45 minutes if done properly. With the engine oil and filter change, and the air and pollen filters, it's at least one hour, most likely more.

Under £50 per hour from an indie that's registered with MB will hardly leave any profit after overhead, tools, training etc are taken into account. Of course he might be using the margin on the parts to subside the labour. Or he could be cutting corners and not carrying-out the full inspection schedule.... I do not know.

But there's no doubt that £218 for a B Service plus air filter change is a cracking deal.

Even doing the service with the car on the ground-using vacuum to suck the engine oil out- one hour at just £50 sounds really cheap . Fair play if thats what the OP gets the job done properly for.

Had my c43 w202 serviced at MB for £139 which included a video report -

The MB Value Service does not include the full Service A or Service B inspections, right? So in terms of labour costs, you only pay for the labour of replacing the service parts that are due, plus a quick health check? And obviously the dealer saves on the cost of Mobilo and anti-perforation warranty inspection.

Incidentally, when I had the Toyota, their Value Service was only available for cars older than 7 years, I suppose they didn't want owners of newer car taking advantage of the cheaper quick service and thus lose the revenue from the full service...
