Hi All

I want to get the wheel alignement checked and adjusted on my new toy :D , does anyhone know what the settings should be for a C32 saloon -I just want to ensure that wherever I take it has the correct settings and not just use the default C Class settings (assuming of course there is a difference?)

Also, does anyone know a good alignment place in the Marlborough/ Hungerford area?

Many Thanks

Hi
pulls v. slightly to the left and seems to be a bit of wear on the front left. I could just get the tracking looked at but as I have just got this car I think it is best to get the alignment done as it may not have been checked since it was new.

Cheers

It will naturally pull to the left a little, try searching the forum for pull left and you'll see what I mean.

Where is the wear relative to the centre line of the wheel. MBs can tend to wear on the outer edges. Turn to full lock and then take a look at the angle of the road wheels and you can see why.

Of course, if you think the pull is too strong - or wear too much - then it's best get it checked. Go somewhere trusted like Wheels in Motion though, as a it could easily be made worse.

Hi jonathanc,

What makes you think that you require geometry alighnment. Before you start spending any money, heres a quick test that you can do yourself to ascertain if you actually have a fault to start with.

Take a standard tape measure and measure the wheelbase of the vehicle, in other words, from the centre of the front wheel centre cap to the centre of the rear wheel centre cap, and then make comparisons from both sides of the vehicle.

This measurement will actually tell you if you indeed have a problem to start with. The maximum tolerance from side to side should be no more than 3mm, if beyond those limits, then start to look at maybe suspension damage, quite probably from kerbing impact.

Hi All

Thanks for your comments, I appreciate your help in saving my money (which is always welcome:D) however the only way to check the alignment is to have it tested with the correct equipment. Measuring the wheel base only won't, for example, indicate if the castor angle or toe is correct. Places I have taken cars to in the past charge a smallish amount to check and then charge for any adjustments made, giving results pre and post adjustment.
My concern is that the C32 may be too rare for garages to have the correct values so I'd rather go armed with the correct info if anyone has them?

Thanks

In that case, make the trip to Wheels in Motion. You can be confident it will be spot on then. Their reputation is exemplary.

My SLK pulled to the left despite being in tolerance by MB. Wheels in motion sorted it with three adjusters cost £217

My C270 cdi Aventgarde estate sports pack 04 facelift had two visits to Wheels In Motion for geometry and tracking.

The service was first class and explanations given in practical terms. The bolts were previously fitted and mine was a " Steer " problem rather than a " Drift " problem ie drifting to the right or left.

They made a good car an excellent one, hope this helps

Mark.

Hi There Jonathan

I did not suggested for one minute that a quick wheelbase check would solve your problems, I merely stated that a quick check would give you some indication as to whether or not you may have an issue. If you want to rectify this situation, then yes you are absolutely right in suggesting it may have a castor, camber or sai (steering angle inclination) issue.

Only by carrying out a "full" geometry investigation will you ascertain the extent of your problem, if indeed there is a problem. If its only information in the form of data that you seek, then why not contact your local MB centre as they may give you the specific data for your vehicle.
