I have a W204 C350 CDI and I'm quite interested in having the D6s plug n' play unit installed. I've just been quoted £2999 for parts and labour from my local MB garage. This seems very steep!! Has anyone been quoted a cheaper price?

That's a lot of money.

Labour is 1 hour tops.

The D6S is relatively new and for the 265bhp engine.

Is that your powerunit?

Yeah it's a 2012 265bhp. The unit is quoted to take it to 313bhp, but it doesn't justify that price.

Is that just a remap or do you get something extra..

Wow that's steep. I have the same engine and would be tempted but it'd need to be much cheaper for me.

Definitely be interested in hearing the result if you do get it done.

They seem to work out at about 1800 all in. A few people have contacted me to ask what I paid - that seems to be what most dealers quote. You might find one in some far flung place that will do it for about 100 less. As posted elsewhere, make sure you get a box with the latest firmware - the difference between that and earlier firmware is astonishing.

about to (hopefully) get this done (see below!). do you know which firmware exactly, is the one to get? and the one to avoid?

do you know how many revisions there have been?

i have been chasing MB literally for the last 2 WEEKS trying to find information out about this kit and i still have been told absolutely nothing. nobody seems to know what the hell i'm talking about. i've been passed from pillar to post and back again - told someone will call back, but never. it's a shambles...

@wilsodg i can't pm yet, so forced to chat here:

i'm in hampshire too, which is why i've been drawn to your posts. by any chance, did you get your kit fitted at either the portsmouth or southampton branches?

I had mine done in Purslow in Basingstoke. You need to contact Brabus direct for firmware information. Markus Paus <[email protected]> is the guy who a few of us have contacted and he is really really helpful.

He will need the VIN of your car, and a photo of the sticker on the Brabus box (with serial# on it). Even though I purchased mine new, the firmware was old and the replacement box supplied by Brabus made a huge difference. If you are going for a new one, I suggest check the firmware first with Markus before the garage fits it. If the car is new(ish), it's a 2hr fit because it's fiddly getting the wiring through to the engine bay using the suggested path (requires partial removal of the fusebox).

If you do go to Purslow, speak to Matt Young - he's arranged a few now.

just spoke to MB southampton. they said they have to order the kit in, and to do that, it's going to cost £2500 & VAT!!!!

then another £150 to fit!!

pretty much takes it up to £3000!

surely this is wrong somewhere along the line...?

For the sake of a 35 minute drive, try Purslow at Basingstoke 01256 464050. I can't believe MB Southampton want 3k. It's robbery, and clearly they don't want the business.

And if Purslow come up with a similarly stupid price, at least Matt has a brain and will tell you what's changed. If Matt is not there, ask for Jim.

Also, I'd really call the guys at GAD. Warranty aside (not sure how old your 204 is) I think they have a solution that is probably superior to the Brabus box. On that point - your car must be less than 2 yrs old, and have less than 18k miles on the clock (otherwise the Brabus warranty does not cover you and you might as well go to GAD).

Good luck.

cheers wilsodg. it's a brand new car, being picked up around the 6th september.

C350 Estate Sport Plus AMG, Diesel with 265bhp engine.

I've just spoke to Colin at Purslow, (Matt is on leave until Monday) and he looked into it and called me back. he just quoted me £2500 including VAT, plus fitting costs of around £150.

a bit better than southampton's £3150, but not by much!

i desperately want this done, but i'm reluctant to pay more than £2k all in...

i might give Matt a call on monday - hopefully he will have better news...

I just checked - my box cost £1690 including VAT. No Discount. Part number MQB21273610. Fitting £82. D6S to fit the OM642 265 engine.

Listed on ebay (new) for the same price from German supplier.

Has anyone ever got a price direct from Brabus for one of these boxes? I realise you would have to be in Germany to do that but seeing these prices makes my eyes water. So just wondering how much is for the electronics and how much for the name as I've always found Brabus a brilliant company to deal with and they told me more about my car than I knew myself :D

I've just emailed Brabus and got a reply from their Sales Manager:

Hi Mark,
*
many thanks for your request and the interest in our products. You're correct in stating that the price you have been quoted seems unusually high, even though the recommended net retail price of 1.790 Euros excludes VAT, fitment and shipping of the component to the UK.
*
I have forwarded your request to our Premium retailer in Milton Keynes, in order for you to get an updated quotation, as these technical performance upgrades do need to be fitted by an authorised Brabus retailer. Many thanks!

Seems like the price on their brochure is less VAT. Still a million miles away from the original quote from MB Southampton!

Hopefully someone from Milton Keynes will be in touch soon with a reasonable price. Failing that, eBay is looking rather attractive...

I'll let you know how it goes.

Edit: just had another quick look on Brabus' website. It seems that MB of Milton Keynes are the ONLY official UK retailer...

Is it worth nipping over the water to Belgium or Holland and using a Brabus retailer there, with exchange rate might work out cheaper even with the trip :dk:

i did wonder that myself. on the brabus website, there are 4 french and 10 dutch retailers, but only one UK.

if MB of MK don't come back with a reasonable price, then i think i'll buy from ebay. the guy has really good feedback and the cost is around £1670, with postage to the UK. obviously the firmware issue could then a problem - if i get old firmware, will brabus upgrade it free of charge?
