I usually average 35mpg but the last week I've had the roof box on and it's dropped to 30mpg

I am towing a 1tn trailer (folding camper) down to Switzerland and with a roof box on the top of the car I am getting 25mpg! Arrghh! I had hoped for 30.

Are you chaps using the factory fitted towbar, or have you fitted them aftermarket?

Have a good time! Don't think about the mpg. You are on holiday.

Tyre Life

Didn't think I'd been too heavy too often with the right foot, but just noticed my Conti Contact Sport 5s on the rear are almost down to the wear bars after only 8500 miles...

That's on the estate, premium, pano sun roof etc.

Is it just me?

Yes factory fitted on an estate. Very good too -nice height for my trailer and the air suspension has kept everything on the level.

I'm at around 12k, with probably fairly tame driving!, and not close yet.

A colleague went through a set after 9k in a 300h so I've been watching quite closely

Strange, I'm at 13k miles, plenty of tread left and now regularly get early to mid 40's on a long run and that's without ever charging. Interesting how much of a difference having engine set to Eco makes (on i setting with steering and suspension set to sport/+ and air con on comfort), with it providing more brake assist to regenerate etc. I can get mid to late 40's if I'm not heavy footed. Early 40's cruising at motorway (+) speeds.

Saloon with Pan roof and standard 17's.

Whoa - I've had the same fronts on my e220 for the past 3 years and over 29k miles. I only replaced the rears at 24k and I don't drive like Miss Daisy!

Good job it's a company car if the c350 eats tyres that quick!

As I have said elsewhere, at 13,000 miles my rear tyres were like slicks - thank goodness I checked because they had possibly been illegal for a thousand miles or so! At least they are reasonably cheap (£130 each fitted) When I had an EvoX it killed all four tyres every 12000miles and they cost over £250each!
Interestingly my tyres were worn evenly, even though I run the pressures at the high end of the suggested range and do almost all of my miles on my own and without luggage. The tyre company told me they see a lot of C350e tyres worn on the outer shoulders (under-inflated).
For all of you that are running heavily loaded, make sure you pump your tyres up to the maximum in the range.

The guy next door also has a c350e estate but his is on Hankooks rather than the Contis. Wonder if those have a better tread life - they certainly have plenty of wear left.. Anyway, two rear tyres replaced at 8800. Will keep a closer eye next time...

Sounds like the 18" wheelers wear a lot quicker, 17" wheels with Hankooks here but not gone past 3000 miles now anyway.

I can't think of a reason why the bigger diameter wheels would wear differently to smaller wheels. I was also surprised that the Conti' Sports wore so quickly as I have run them with other cars and found them to be a good compromise tyre (good wet & dry handling with decent life). Hankook do have some much harder compounds that are meant to be better for economy and life but, in my experience, provided terrible grip especially in the wet. However, I am also aware that they produce some good 'performance tyres' but they generally wear really quickly. What type of Hankook are people fitting to the C350e?
I drive my car hard, so handling is more important to me than tyre life. As previously said, perhaps hard driving and the weight of the batteries will always result in short tyre life and I will just have to live with it.

I have hankook's and after 8k front and rears have around 6mm left if not more.

I don't drive it quick although wheel spin in reverse nearly every time as I still can't get used to how slow it reverses it before engine kicks in and lights up the rears.

I might go for the contis next if possible as the c200d amg had them and i felt more grip although not a fair comparison due to different wheel size and suspension.

I'm getting 47mpg over the 8K.

Please note that the outer flap covering the charging socket is connected via a weak hinge and my hinge has fractured and broke off. I'm not too sure how this may have occurred and I can only guess that the flap has been knocked whilst the outer flap was open whilst left on charge.
The outer flap plate is approx. £9 to replace. However, the hinged section is moulded into the rear bumper and I'm waiting for Mercedes to quote the price for the full bumper replacement. I'm currently keeping the rain off the charging socket via the inner socket hinged cover.
I've expressed concern with Mercedes as to a potential design fault as it seems crazy that the petrol flap is a moulded removable casing around the fuel nozzle and yet the charging socket is moulded into the rear bumper and does not provide a quick replacement inexpensive part. :fail
My charging flap snapped off when I knocked it removing the charger. I feel it is not robust enough for persistent use and exposure to the elements. MB are refusing to replace under warranty, did you challenge this and how much did it cost to remove bumper and replace?

Sorry to hear about these problems. I believe Mitsubishi Outlander owners have a similar issue with their flaps getting bent back in high winds and breaking. Does seem the manufacturers haven't considered the wear and tear on these items and the practicalities of replacing them. I'm surprised ours is a push to open design, especially on the rear of the car where the dirt collects. It won't be long before there's a bald patch on the paint...

I assume you mean the outer flap rather than the inner flap? When my car was delivered I was told that I should be very careful not to walk into the flap as if it snapped off then it required the bumper to be replaced as it was all one unit. Not entirely sure of the truth in that since the person who delivered it wasn't overly knowledgeable about the car (they told me it had to be in Charge mode when plugged in!).

Good luck getting it replaced under warranty... I feel it would be unlikely you would get a full warranty replacement but perhaps a bit of good will towards it?

On another note I have 17" Hankooks... hopefully those will get replaced by Michelin (our tyre policy) but I am not sure if tyres were included in the lease maintenance package or not (if they are then all bets are off).

I've got 18" continentals on mine. Hope they continue when I get them replaced!
