C350e anyone considering one?

The 17" Sport models have these on them:

Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 - Tyre Reviews

We're leasing through MB leasing so not sure what they will replace them with but i've found them to be ok but the majority of my driving is in comfort mode and the driver taking it pretty easy!

Interesting - the Ventus is not a 'performance tyre' but comparing with the Continental Sport review they are only rated at 3% worse for grip and 4% worse for Feedback,. Then on the plus side they are 1% better for progressiveness, 15% better for wear, 6% better for comfort and have a rating 11% higher for 'buy again'.
Even though I value 'performance' I might consider a change when all four tyres need replacing.

After getting my car delivered 1st july , i have driven it a total of 2 miles :(

I am a bit out of action so cant drive for a few months.

So i get my dad to start the car and idle it on the drive to keep the engine battery charged up.

But i have now noticed how rough it sounds on start up and there is a knocking noise coming from the front of the engine in idle.

Is this normal ?

I don't think I've ever had mine at idle. The engine switches off at no throttle. So all electric when stationary...

If it's got delivery mileage+2 then still needs running in?
Or if it's just sat on a driveway it needs a run out to lubricate everything?

Hi
Mine makes a variety of odd noises much like that, seems to be related to charge mode and if the compressor is trying to level the suspension. Also the pre entry climate is getting rather loud also, have done about 5000 miles in mine with a overall average of 33 mpg

I really wouldn't be doing that! That is about the worst thing you can do to an engine.
Either drive it or leave it off and unplug the battery negative.

Enjoy, make sure to take your plug adaptor :p

Have you swapped some AMG line wheels onto your car?

Yes they are 19" AMG replicates they came with budget tyres which I changed after around 8k miles to Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric.

I am towing a 1tn trailer (folding camper) down to Switzerland and with a roof box on the top of the car I am getting 25mpg! Arrghh! I had hoped for 30.

Just returned from our 2k mile trip from the south of France and with the 3 bikes on the back, full car (2 adults and 2 kids ) plus roof box I averaged 24 mpg! At one point going there in Northern France I was averaging 21 mpg. I drove in hybrid mode. My overall average over 12k miles is 33mpg down from 35.

I'm thinking of buying a caravan later this year, how does the c350e tow?
I believe the maximum tow weight is 1500 Kg.

I have just towed our 1tn folding camper to Switzerland. Getting 24mpg with that behind and a roof box on the top. It tows very well. I used to have a 3.0d x3 and I can't really say that I have noticed a difference. The factory fit tow bar is good.

Sorry to hear you are out of action. Your Dad needs to drive the car. Idling it on the drive is no good at all. Plug it into a trickle charger if you are worried about the car battery going flat, but it really needs a good run.

Stick your Dad on the insurance and tell him to go and have a blast. :D

Only time I find myself sat stationery with engine running is if I've gone to move it a little on the road and accidentally pushed down to hard causing engine to come on then stopped and engine continues on for a bit or sitting with low charge on the batteries with aircon running, wouldn't you have to start it and put it into charge or sport/sport+ to force engine on?

I'm pretty sure you can idle with the engine on in Esave or Sport modes.
It often feels a bit lumpy too, which might be what the OP was referring to.

Quick update .

I have booked it in my local Mercedes dealer to be looked at , they are coming to collect it.

Reading on another forum some cla 45 owners have had the same knocking noise.

It was the camshaft tensioner pully .

Will report back

Was at the BMW dealer dropping off my girlfriend for a service pickup and spotted this 330e.

First one I've seen. Looked nice with the m sport kit and blue brake callipers
Charging plug was right on the surface of the wing, would get much more wet than the 350e

There was an f10 m5 that was there too... tempting!

Thought I would post an explanation of how the different drive modes work as they're not quite as well explained as the dynamic modes.

HYBRID - Medium use electric, higher requirements switch to engine, lighter use to the accelerator will also charge batteries.

E-MODE - high use electric, very high requirements switch to engine.

E-SAVE - low use electric, mostly engine used, lighter engine use also charges batteries

CHARGE - no electric (I think that's right but never used this mode), engine charges batteries, increased fuel use.

In low use electric you cannot hold the speed uphill but can just about on a flat without the engine kicking in, if going downhill you can accelerate.

In medium use electric you can accelerate but not very fast, you're into average car 0-60 here.

In high use electric you essentially have an EV and you can make reasonable acceleration but nothing compared to Sport+ of course!

I think this is about right and hope it helps.

So which is the fastest combination to use - hybrid and sport plus?

Yup that's the fastest combo.

Flip up into Sport+, overtake something, flip back down to comfort and continue to cruise....not that you can't put your foot down while in still in comfort and still get a hefty shove.

The individual programming for the dynamic modes is also good if you have specific requirements, you can choose a mixture from each dynamic mode for your steering, suspension, aircon and engine and choose whether you have haptic feedback on or off (it's only on in Eco usually).

Also forgot to note that when you get down 1 mile and to the "plugin now" level it changes the electric use to "low use electric" regardless of mode but you can force it into E-MODE but that will only work until 10% charge then it will switch to engine only (it reserves 10% in case you suddenly need to overtake something and need electrically assisted engine power)

I have used this forum for a number of months and made a decision to opt for a C350e – thanks for all your comments. So for what it is worth, here’s my experience.

My reason for selecting the C350e was to gain the maximum tax benefit and wanted to achieve the 49g CO2 figure. My option selection was very limited because some of the options change the tyre size and as a consequence CO2 increases. Beware!

The car was ordered on 6th April without a test drive (nearest dealer did not have one available!) and despite an issue with M-B obsoleting the paint colour after the order was accepted, the car was delivered on 9th August. I was taking a huge risk by opting for this car without a test drive but initial impressions are very favourable, despite my previous car being a BMW 520d Touring. Obviously, the C350e is slightly smaller inside compared to the BMW but overall quality and performance are very good. While I was not expecting diesel like fuel economy, I averaged 39 mpg on a journey from North Yorkshire to Cornwall this weekend.

If you are in any doubt about the C350e, you need have no concerns!

For the saloon all specs are in the magic 49g/km or under but for the estate only the Sport spec is, if you want the packs it's a big jump in company car tax.

With the hybrid operating mode set to "charge" will the engine charge the battery fully?
