Hi guys, Went down to Merc man today and found a C36 exhaust and resonator, we agreed the price of £250 for the pair, first off, will it fit? iv seen it on youtube where a bloke has one on his C230 from the UK and it was the sort of sound i like.

second of all, is it good value? they look in very good condition.

p.s. dont worry no amg badges will be arising on the bootlid

I think the video you seen on is a member here Adam
Why not get just the back box though?Anyway they`ll not be straight fit but you can make them work
As for the price there`s hard to tell as there`s is none for sale at the moment but I think is about right

I would guess the video you saw was Adam230K's, he is member on here but has disgracefully defected to a BMW! :ban::D:)

His exhaust was a full stainless steel system with sports cats and C36 backbox only, hence the rough dirty sound it makes.

I sold one recently for around £150 to a member.

ok so I dont need the resonator? i should just go and get a straight through resonator made to fit my standard cat and the C36 back box? is it worth the hassle? As i want a decent sound and it would be nice to have OEM parts/look

Get a pipe made to fit from the cts to the backbox, you`ll get a batter sound by removing the centre box

Ideal, good advice! Anybody know in the southwest who does it?

Removing the resonator should give you a nice sound :) without being too noisy. It will also free up the exhaust flow. Can't vouch for a power increase though, but should give a couple of extra horses IMO :thumb:

GREAT NEWS :D :D :D

just rang a custom exhaust fitter who is well known for being very good. £40/£60 for a custom straight through resonator. I am now very pleased with this as i know they are good but it will give me a good sound without being chavvy!

Well, please get back to us with your impressions after the conversion.

I had the resonator removed on my CLK230 and had a sports cat fitted, no centre box but straight through to a custom made back box, all in stainless.

Those that have heard it will tell you at low speed it is nice and throaty but at high speed it whistles past like a bullet train, but no drone in the cabin at all.

Hope it works well for you. I had a problem of loss of torque on the low end after changing my exhaust to a Remus. Had a 3rd party stainless steel resonator replace my old one too. Can't say I'm too happy because the car seems less drivable with the loss of low end torque. I think the problem is that the exhaust system is too free flowing now with not enough back pressure. Mine's a 01 CLK230K incidentally.

Thats sounds like it turned out nicely for you, im hoping that by not putting a sports cat on it wont be as tinny as the one on youtube (adams car)

Thats not good, however with it being a AMG item i expect it wont have too many issues. Thanks for the advice though.

Post #11 is a very good point make sure you get the flows and pressure in the exhaust correct, if you make it free flowing you will lose torque you then need to open up the intake with a K&N filter or similar to make the most of what you can push through the system.

ok thanks for the advice, so is a straight through resonator not a good idea? i mean i cant think of any other option really. How do i know what to tell the guys at the exhaust place to get the right back pressure? Have you got a straight through resonator?

Yep straight through resonator and sports cat which gives more flow, then straight into the back box. I run a Green panel free flow air filter so back box spec was calculated to maintain back pressure so I did not lose torque. The right exhaust place will know how to do the calcs

beauty. thanks for the help! Cant wait to get it on there
