reading on US forums yankees say they got their c43 transmission reprogrammed with new tranny software to avoid the aggressive factory version software?
Have you ever heard of this?
When I asked my local stealer they say they have never heard such thing about tranny upgrade?
Many of the forumguys with US cars experianced their tranny to breakdown!
And they were replaced by warranties or rebuilt them or got their self the E55 tranny instead.

If stealership in the US have a tranny software upgrade why doesn't european dealerships have this?
Is it just BS or what?

Have seen this mentioned before but iirc AMG in Germany knew nothing about it and the UK Dealer network... well...

Hi,
I have heard of reports that its not the gearbox that was weak but as you say it was the transmission's bespoke software in the ECU, I have also heard that when dealers had gearbox issues they replaced the transmission ECU as well and i believe the ECU was superseded at least once.
What the difference between these superseded ECU's i don,t know but it would be interesting to know the pt. no. of say a very early 43 a late pre tip 43.

I heard the fluid seeps past a seal onto the ECU PCB, rather than it being a "bug" that selects the wrong gear or whatever?

thanx for the input guys.
when the fluid seeps into the ECU box through a bad seal, this means that conductor plate is going bad.
I had to change it last year, it's a squarish plastic part with 2 magnets measuring in and out going speed.
my mechanic opened the plug and it was leaking oil.
this part is never checked by MB during service, so you never notice the leaks, it's all internal leak drowning the ECU on passengers side floor.

also the outer plug on the front right corner of the transmision goes bd and here you can notice the leaks under the car

here is a picture of the conductor plate that goes bad.
it was a weak part up to 2002 I was told

Hi,
The fluid seal problem and fluid travelling through the cables to the ECU is a common fault on all MB's fitted with the 722.6 gearbox.
The part costs approx. £20 and has been improved and superseded many times.
This part itself doesn,t cause the electro plate to go though the loss of fluid might.
I had my seal replaced about 18 months ago, in my case the fluid only went as far as the plug to the Transmission ECU, the ECU had no oil contamination.
It took about 20 minutes to do, and required approx. 0.5 litre of oil as a top up.

if this is not the part I attached on picture, which seal are you talking about?
where is it located?
are you talking about the outer round plug?
can you link a picture of what it looks like?

when my mechanic opened the plug somewhere on the transmission, it was just a high oil pressure poring out!
he said change the conductor plate!
this was an expensive operation.
it cost me about £420 with labour and parts.

Is there anything else to be worried about?
attach the picture of that seal you had to change

Hi,
Sorry haven,t got a pic of the Pilot Bush (seal) but it is the round gland seal on the drivers side of the gearbox, the mechanic changed it on my driveway, with the car jacked up slightly he changed it with less than half a litre of fluid being lost.

it's the stiff round plastic plug?
this is what you're talking about?
Part Number Image

it's either conductor plate or the round plug going bad?

Hi,
Yes thats the Pilot Bush I had changed.
When retro-fitting the Auto-levelling ECU i noticed oil on the floor of the passenger side which led me to change it.
What symptons did you have when the conductor plate was replaced?

I didn't have any symptoms on my car when my mechanic tested for leaks!
It was sipping out a small amount of oil pressure when he unscrewed the bolt but nothing dangerous coz it was noticed at an early stage!

when the technician unscrewed the entire bolt, then there was an oil pressure just poring out the fluid.
he told me I need a new conductor plate (big plastic part attached above)
luckily for me the oil did not reach the ecu in the passengers footwell.
following year the round plug busted and started leaking, I don' understand why he didn't change it with the conductor plate?
he cost me extra money for this cheap part and the topping up for transmission oil with labour.

I hope there are no more tranny problems besides these 2 I've already had before!
It's good to know I have new parts on my car now.

what's auto levelling ECU?
Is it for your rear shox suspension?
C43 can't use a trailer hitch?
Is it for the suspension performance you have an auto levelling Ecu?

I meant to say when he took apart the conductor plate there was a massive fluid spray on the garage floor, oil was squirting around the car underneath

Hi,
As Gridlock says I was retro-fitting Xenon Headlights, the headlights to be legal have to have to be auto-levelling, this levelling ECU is fitted in the passenger side footwell behind the steel plate, adjacent to the ECU for the Transmission.

I didn't know that Zenon ECU was near the transmission ECU.

so you had to retrofit some expensive parts to your c43?
daeemn!
are you fully loaded now?
