As some of you know i have had an issue with rust on the front o/s corner of the sunroof, thought i would give you an update.

Brentford rectified it in 2006/Nov 2008 (which they did not want to do until i wrote to the CEO and MD customer services at Milton Keynes) they have now had it for the third time.

They collected it twelve days ago and the Body shop Manager said it would be ready in a week and left us with a new C-Class 180 (We had to take care of the insurance, no big deal)

I phoned the day before the insurance ran out to see when it would be ready and spoke to the Quality Control man. He said he would get back yo me, you have guessed it, he didn't. Rang him again, sorry sorry forgot will get back to you in ten minutes and he did phone me back. I am afraid we have a problem (Houston), whilst doing the work the headlining was set on fire. We have had to order a new headlining from Germany, how long will take as the insurance runs out tomorrow, don't know will find out and let you know. No return call again.

This was late Thursday so i rang and spoke the Manager and asked him if he knew what was going on, no he had not been told, what about the car insurance, don't worry we can put you on our policy, which was the least he could have done.

Still have no confirmation on when the car will be ready as the Manager is on holiday this week and nobody in the body shop is answering the phone, have left numerous messages, does the body shop at Brentford really exist.

I just hope that when the headlining eventually arrives they have someone that knows what he is doing, unlike the person who tried to rectify the rust on the sunroof.

They have assured me that this time they have cut out the rust completely and re-welded a new section in. I'm not sure whether i should hold my breath.

Here ends the Rant.

Pay them a visit, it's the big building behind Howdens next to the M4 elevated section.

Sorry to haer about that Peter.I hope they`ll get it sorted asap

I would definitely visit to see how bad the damage is

They have moved to accross the road now as they are being re-developed (the new Audi showroom dwarfs them) - Is Danny Palmer still the bodyshop manager? if he is then I know him well. (and I have other contacts within)

As suggested pay the car a visit and demand to see what state it is in (is it just a burn or have they set fire to it and half the wiring loom?). Give me a call if you want me to meet you down there.

No the manager now is a Scott Goff who is on holiday this week. Many thanks for your offer. I am waiting for a call back on how long it will be for the headlining to arrive.

A fellow member has spoken to a contact he has in the body shop and it is not very bad, apparently the heating lamp caught the headlining.

He said that the Headlining is on back order in Germany which means for ever, a very rare thing a C43 headlining i would think. Might have to be re-trimmed independently, we will wait and see.

Once again many thanks for the offer of coming down to Brentford with me.

Thanks for the update.

The C43 headlining would be no different to another W202 with sunroof option ?

Thats very good news.

Sorry to hear of your woes Peter I just hope they have done a good repair this time.
Though it does seem a strange place for rust on a 202, i have never seen one rust there before, every where else yes but not there.
Good luck.

Sorry to hear the problems with MB........but hope the repair it to the perfect condition your car is.

Sorry to hear about the issues Peter :( Hope it's all sorted sooner rather than later though. I suppose you should be thankful they stopped the fire before it damaged anything else! Not that that is really any comfort :(

Cheers,
Mark

I would make a trip down there to have a look at the rest of the car. Suprise them by walking into the workshop maybe.....

MB Brentford are an outfit of unorganised clowns. I honestly hope they dont mess up your car, i know i'll never take mine there again for anything.

Sorry to here of your woes, let us know how it goes.

Sorry to hear about that - very annoying!

They originally agreed to repair under the 8 year goodwill?

I'll have owned my C43 6 months in October, it's a Sept 98 car (grr) and the arches (originally rolled by AMG) are rusting, I'd love for Merc to step up and split the costs with me (or take care of it FOC!) but MB Watford laughed at me, and said I can try again when I've owned it 6m - but didn't seem optimistic.

Any advice?

Good luck with yours :(

Made them a surprise visit on Thursday morning.

The damage to the Headlining was minimal, just a couple of inches of scorching. They seemed to have done a good job on the rust repair, time will tell.

The thing i can never understand is why they blatantly tell you lies and think you are some sort of idiot.

One of my concerns was was while waiting for the Headlining the car would be sitting out in a yard covered in all sorts of rubbish which i pointed out to this " Quality and Progress Controller Person " who i have been dealing with and he assured me that it was under cover in a dust free environment the usual flannel. I told him i thought that was highly unlikely but he assured me.

You guessed it, in a the yard covered in white dust, it had been raining you can imagine what it looked like especially as i had clayed and polished the car etc two weeks before.

I had a few words with this "Quality" person well maybe more than a few, of course his boss was on holiday.

As i said this was Thursday, i was told that the Parts Manager had found a headlining and it would with them on the 1st September, i queered why it would take nearly two weeks as as they found it on Wednesday, Fed X,DHL it should be here Monday the latest. He said the Manager was trying to get it over sooner. I left it that he would phone me in the afternoon and let me know, know phone call. Since this drama stated i have had to phone them back on every occasion. This time left messages on his mobile voice mail same with the Parts Manager and the switchboard, the same on Friday no return call from anyone. You don't think I'm getting the run a round :wallbash:. I still don't beleive they have found one.

That's what really pi--es me off, thinking that if they ignore you you will go away and treating you like some sort of imbecile. On Monday the Body Shop Manager will be back from his holiday and i will be waiting to see him.

Sorry to hear of the poor service Peter. It's annoying to know that they've not been treating your car with the respect that it deserves.

Politeness costs nothing, a phonecall back only takes a couple of minutes - especially considering the carelessness with the headlining etc.

I hope it comes back in a respectable state.

Will

I'm a total pacifist, but pointless lies like that would make my blood boil.

With a bit of luck, all the sh1te on the car can simply be hosed off. Just make sure you DON'T let them offer to get it valeted for you as gesture of goodwill - they're very likely to give it to the 16yr old on work experience to 'clean'!

just as well you paid a surprise visit!
