C43 To C63?

Thanks for the replies everyone :) Works been a bit mental so not had chance to try booking a test drive, I was hoping I might've snuck one in this week before lockdown kicked in but alas...

My garage door opening is 2.12m but has 2 strips of soft rubber so actual gap is 2.07m, no issues getting the car in.
Thank you, I've measured the opening of mine and it's 6'6/2m think I should be safe then :)

Mythical - how do you find the C43 performance and grip especially in the wet?
I think it's a great car, easily the fastest I've owned so far, the gearbox shifts quick and with the PE it sounds fantastic IMO. Grip wise it just sticks to the road and is very difficult to unsettle, I've never noticed any understeer and I've only ever got the back end out turning ESP off in the wet and putting some effort in to provoking it.
Problem is whilst I do like AWD and the grip it provides, because it takes no effort at all making progress wet or dry it does make the car a little dull sometimes - It's great for a daily and suited my needs when I first go it but I do find myself wanting something a bit more now...

I’ve recently purchased a C63 coupe having test driven several C43 coupes. As soon as I drove the 63 v8, I knew it was the right choice. Main points:
V8 engine
sports exhaust
wider body
power

The 43 looked like a standard 220d, but the noise and performance from the 63 are worlds apart.

I prefer the look of the sports seats, however the standard seats are comfortable on long journeys. They could do with being slightly narrower for me, but they adjust well.

go for the 63, you’ll never look back 👍🏻

where are you based ?
Your car looks great :) I do love the wider stance at the rear, its the thing that is lacking the most on the C43 IMO.
Have you noticed any 'crabbing' in your C63? it's something that bugs me on my C43 despite ditching the rubbish Pirelli's it came with for Michelins.
I'm based in South Yorkshire.

No sign of crabbing. I’ve recently put P Zeros on all round and it’s much better than the worn conti’s. I’ve also fitted spacers since this photo which make the stance so much better.
I agreed, the 43 looks too understated for an AMG .
if you were more local I would have been happy to pop round to compare the two. 👍🏻

Evening All,

I've currently got a 2019 C43 coupe which I'm a big fan of, but I've been getting the urge to own a C63 for the V8 before they start downsizing. (still think that will be a big mistake but hey ho..)

Just wondering if anyone on here has gone from a C43 to a C63/63S, and what your experience has been like? positives/negatives?

I've got the standard seats in my C43 which are really comfortable on long journeys, for those that have used both, how do the performance seats compare? About half my trips are 2-4 hour drives each way so comfort is definitely a requirement as it will be a daily driver.

To be honest my biggest concern is how much wider the C63 coupe is. Whilst the space inside of my garage is alright, the entrance is a bit tight and I have to fold the mirrors in to get the C43 inside.
Looking at pictures of the C63 I'm not sure if it will fit due to the width of the rear, does anyone know the width not including mirrors? Google seems to suggest 1592mm but I'm pretty sure that isn't right.

I was hoping to nab a test drive at my local dealer and test parking it inside but the latest lockdown announcement is probably going to delay that :(

Hi

I think I can help answer this. I have 2 friends 1 with a C43 saloon and 1 with a C63 saloon too.

I used to think the C43 was the better choice because of the 4matic (and lets be fair it does have more traction). The C63 is wider, it is a more harsh ride (not much more but still is) it doesn't feel wider when your driving the C63 feels the same size to me.

Both cars on the motorway feel the same in terms of comfort but down more uneven road the C43 is slighter smoother.

But all is forgotten when you plant your foot in the C63 the noise is makes is far better than the C43 and the rear end is jumping around for traction its a much more scary / exciting car than the C43 and lets be honest when your looking into buying an AMG or M car you want that excitement. On the same road near me where I can drive with 100% throttle with the C43 I can only manage 70% throttle max in the C63 because the car that much more powerful and scary.

I would pick the C63 over the C43 anyday and the fuel isn't that much better in the C43.

this is just my personal opinion both great cars but C63 for me.

I’m in a C43. To be honest it’s not a comparison that makes sense as to me they are very different cars

Totally different price point.

Having driven a series of 6 cyl 3.0 litre German cars, the C43 is the perfect introduction to what separates the AMG brand from the regular non AMG cars.

It’s very sporty, 4WD = keeps you safe, lovely spitting with PE.

It goes v v quick. Scarily quick.

I think it’s the perfect transition car for a “normal car” driver.

ts main role being to give the customer a v8 itch while enjoying their current car.

I would add that for the real question for a C43 owner is C63 vs E63. I’ve been pondering that for ages but that’s a different thread

Listen to the noise a C63 makes and you’re mind will be made up 😁
I followed a C43 Estate the other day and I'm sure he was trying to impress me.
The car is nice, but the exhaust note is pants. Really disappointing if I owned one. It reminded me of an M car exhaust😦

New member here but I’ve had both. Both very different cars - in real world UK driving I don’t think you can tell the performance different.
So really it’s noise and styling which are noticeably better (certainly for the coupe). I’ve had both standard and bucket seats and whilst the buckets look the part they aren’t that comfortable for long distance so that’s worth considering. Pano roof, sports exhaust are a must and heads up display is a nice option to have. The early 205 model years are much louder in both 43 and 63. My C43 crabbed but the 63s never haved. The 63 also handles better on standard 18” wheels but looks better on bigger rims.
I’ve added a few pics of the ones I have had over the years. Ask away if you have any specifics.

After a couple of run-ins with the toe-rag MB dealer group in South Wales I travelled to Gloucester today and test drove a C43 and C63 back to back. All I can say is damn this forum!:) About to do a deal on a pre-reg C63 saloon...
It didn't threaten to throw me off the road nor give me any traction worries. It was a mild 11degrees today and the roads I used were a little damp but not wet. I didn't hoon it around any roundabouts but it felt planted - as you all said you just need to be sensible where and how much you use the throttle. The main thing it that when you do press the throttle and hear that engine, boy is it an event!

With winter tyres fitted then you can just drive normally, even progressively without any concerns. Well worth considering whilst your cheque book it out, as it will transform the car and the way you use it.

Thanks Bobby Dazzler - will definitely look into it.👍
It's black so need to get it detailed first to help it stay a little cleaner...

A good sealant or ideally a ceramic coat will help. As will a DI vessel to soften the water - without it a black car is a nightmare!

Well I've done it, I collect my new (to me) C63S Coupe on the 23rd of December !

Originally I was thinking of getting a brand new one, but looking on carwow/Broadspeed etc and having a chat with a few dealers on discounts available, it just ended up being more money than I wanted to spend.

So I had been keeping an eye on Autotrader and although a few C63 coupes have popped up in the spec/colours I'm interested in, they've either been too far away to easily view, or by the time I get through someone has already put a deposit down/bought it (I'm quite surprised how quickly these are changing hands to be honest, especially during lockdown)

However last week I had some good fortune and my local dealer put a 2019 C63S Coupe in Magno Graphite Grey up for sale which I managed to reserve and arrange to look at today.
All I can say is as soon as the engine turned over I knew had to have it :D! It really is something else. They were happy to let me take the car home and try it in my garage to make sure it fit as well - which it does, little bit tight but it's fine.
The performance seats although firm, are alright to be honest - not quite as comfy as the standard seats - I don't think I'll have any issues on my longer journeys though.

Good on you. You’ll love it. Straight into sports+ and you will be smiling ear to ear. Get some photos up when you get it 👍🏼

Congrats Mythical! I'm collecting my C63S saloon on Monday. I went for a lower spec in the end but the cost to change was exactly what I wanted to pay - it's a 70 plate pre reg with 31 miles on it! Basically just been moved around the dealers compound. It's black with the carbon interior which was a must after I sat in others with the fake wood and piano black consoles. As you said, when you hear that engine the spec doesn't really matter!!

Cheers, I will do :)

Thanks, congrats on your C63S as well :)! I agree the Carbon interior is the best, I don't mind the wood trim but I've sworn off ever having the piano black trim on another car, I've found it horrible to maintain on my C43 - just looking at it seems to cause scratches!
Black is nice, I think dark colours really suit this car - makes them rather menacing IMO. I second Bobby Dazzler's recommendation for a ceramic coat though, it's no miracle but it will make it easier to keep clean and help it stay that way, especially in winter.
Post some pics once you have it please :)

Evening, I hope everyone has had a good Christmas - I know it's not been easy/possible for a lot of people under the circumstances.

I picked up my C63 on the 23rd (well my Dad did on my behalf..) unfortunately I've not been able to enjoy it yet as I've had to have an operation last week and I'm still recovering - should be back up and running soon though :)

I've had a chance to look at it in daylight today and unfortunately it's going to have to go back to the dealership - when I first viewed the car there were a lot of scratches on the rear which I pointed out and they agreed to get the rear of the car resprayed, but it turns out it hasn't been sorted despite them telling my Dad it had been done when he collected it for me.
All the scratches are still there, and for some reason they've gone round and touched up the stonechips on the front of the car so that now looks a mess as well - unless you were close up and looking for them you couldn't really tell it had any before  - the touchup paint doesn't match and they've put too much paint on so it's raised.

I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow, hopefully just a case of them apologising and booking it in for the respray to actually be done this time, can't see why there would be any hassle TBH.
The front I'm annoyed about though, originally I was going to speak to a few PPF installers and get their thoughts on whether PPF over the existing chips would be hidden as they were so small, with the expectation I'd probably have to get it painted, with what has been done it will definitely need a respray now.

On a more positive note, cold starts really are fantastic in this thing :D

Congratulations on your new car. I hope you’re up to full strength soon 👍🏻
