C43 Tyre rubbing

Iv just had 2 Michelin tyres fitted to the front and im now getting some rubbing on the arches when on full lock and reversing. The sizes are the same as the pirellis that were replaced, 225/40/18. Is this common or has something gone wrong somewhere? to me the wheels looks like they protrude more but that could just be my imagination.

Have the wheels been put back on the wrong axles?

Then you need MO tyres for the narrower tread.

Just realised it's the C43. Aren't 17" wheels standard for those, so your 18" wheel won't have the right offset.

There was an ever so slight rub on the C43 I had with 18"s and those tyres were about half worn (4-5mm).

18"s will fit on a 202 without rubbing, they do on mine, and with 235's only rubbed very slightly at speed if I was to hit a slight pothole, they were never offered as a factory fit option, except for the C55 202 (AMG Special). Though they were a dealer fitted option.
The tyre size is correct and as the previous tyre of the same size never rubbed I would think it has something to do with the specific tyre construction of the chosen make having slightly different width due to tread pattern.
Have the wings ever been replaced/removed before do you know?

Hence the need for MO tyres. That is the difference, the tread is made narrower.

Carcass and tread blocks will be the same width.

All manufactures vary slightly with the actual width dimension.

Did the previous tyres rub when they had 8mm.

Doubt it'll cause much damage if only on tight lock..

I just went and looked and on full lock its extremely close to the under arch liners so I imagine with me in the drivers seat and a slight incline that's what's causing it.

I got it round the wrong way, my last tyres that didn't rub were Michelins and the ones fitted now are Pirellis.

The difference with MO tyres is indeed the tread is made narrower to avoid rubbing.

Why would that be the case if 18s were never specified for this car?:dk:

I know you are most likely correct regarding the MO spec tyres but my car never rubbed with 235's (only on the very top edge of the wheel arch on suspension compression) on it at least not until the wing was changed, the wings if replaced need the arch rolled, and need to be perfectly aligned otherwise the tyres will rub, hence my question regarding wing replacement/removal as they might not of been aware that the arches needed rolling and/or could be slightly out of alignment.

Might not of been a factory option but were a dealer fit option, and as I said in my previous post they were offered as an optional extra on the AMG special C55 and that only had C43 suspension.

Even a W210 with 225 on the front the tyres get very close to the wing. MO specification stops them rubbing.

Of course, whadda I know...

I saw what you wrote. But would they do an MO tyre for a rare offering like a C55 w202?

You know nothing...anyway...18s were standard on the E55...so I'd expect an MO for that.
