C450 AMG coming in June 2016

Sherry in Scotland. Sod that get the whisky out!

I can't. I'm not a true 'sweaty sock'. I'm a Manc lad. Too soft for whiskey.

Although I have been known to have the odd babycham. :D

Yes, but who cares? It doesn't matter. What matters is if the cars are any good and .. newsflash... not all AMGs are great cars!
You're right

Facebook goes down and this is what we get on mbclub!

OMG

Just finished to read this tread. Honestly- I'm shocked.
Lost for words.

So anyway, back to the car.....

Being the same engine, it sounds very much like the SL400, which definitely isn't a bad thing. I found the power to be pretty linear and the handling impressive. The body seemed a lot more tied down than a normal AMG line car. It's certainly not the raw savage power you get from the 63, but it's more accessible and manageable power. I think you need some level of skill to drive a 63, this is safer. I know that doesn't sound exciting, but it definitely hits a market that mercedes and lacking in at the moment

Earlier post.......

Is it coming in June 2016?

Is the anything official on pricing?

When can we order?

What will the std spec likely be?

I read through the 2016 business plan yesterday and it's down as a Q3 release, so July onwards. There's no allocation yet.

No official pricing yet, I expect we will get that in Q2

Order books are likely to open in Q2 too

UK standard spec is not confirmed yet

Thanks, how likely is it that the 4matic system may filter up to the 63 as well?

I can vouch for this, in fact it was much of the reason we chose the SL400 rather than the SL500, I was so impressed with the sound and smooth power delivery, it was quite intoxicating.

IMHO

If it has a handbuilt AMG engine ,it's a real AMG. If it doesn't , then it's not. I cannot see any other argument against this.

An AMG car is more than just a hand built engine. There's multi millions of Euro's of investment in handling, stopping, aero, gearboxes, electronics, wheels, independent suspension components. None of which appear in the standard cars. Until now

This is a good thing, Mercedes have decided to fill the huge gap between cooking diesel and monster V8 with a car that's fast and handles just was well (in fact a little bit better) than the V8 on which it's inspired. Created using the hardware from AMG and one of the more powerful production engines in the line up.

Whatever category you want to put it in (or not), it looks like an excellent piece of kit that's been missing from the line up for far too long.

Thank you , fits in nicely with my Sept change date.

Not exactly. The 600 platform had the same brakes as did the 55K. 600 come with ABC suspension too. Airmatic was available for many non AMG cars so are the AMG wheels. Modern bi-turbo 500 cars (E, CL, etc) are not slow and don't need to wear an AMG badge to sell. I'm firmly in the "not an AMG" camp I'm afraid even though I'm sure it will be a nice car

Well, now everyone has calmed down and tucked their hard-ons back in their underpants, I would just like to say:
All the top German brands are being very clever by filling those gaps between their budget range , through to the high end products. And why not ? If you can buy a C Class with a few bits from an AMG, and call it an AMG Sport, that's good. If you wanna buy a 3 series Beemer with a few bits of an M3, and call it and M Sport, that's good too. If they don't do that, the consumers may well go to another brand where they do get more for their money. I think this C450 , will sell in drones, because, lets face it, your average Jo, on Britain`s ****ty roads will love the idea of a nice Merc with 4WD. In the real world, it wouldn't far behind a C63, ( if both drivers were of comparable ability). If you are like me, with a full fat C63, enjoy it while you can , because the future will be, smaller, lighter ., faster, ......
To conclude, the 450 gets a thumbs up from me, although I cant see myself getting one........TBC........
