C55 De-cat pipe

The Americans swear that the x pipe is the only way to go. It seems that since V8’s fire unevenly, exhaust exits in pulses rather than a steady flow. While one pipe is filled with pressure the other pipe is relatively pressureless but the connecting of the two pipes in a siamese pattern allows pressure to be released to the other side. This action allows the exhaust to pass through the pipe quicker and this better ‘breathing’ increases horsepower. It also seems that a cross pipe gives a more mellow overall sound. The best x pipes must be as straight a design from one pipe to the other.
I've just done a bit of reading on t'intertubes and it looks like the yanks are very excited about X/crossover pipes. What I have read mirrors what you say in that the exhaust gases are able to flow through both sides using the join or bridge pipe effectively doubling the capacity of the pipe and allowing better flow.

My next question: "is it even possible to fit a crossover pipe to a W208 CLK55 AMG?" :)

It only has one exhaust backbox so the pipes must already join somewhere.

EDIT: added pic of diagram from EPC with inappropriate items removed. Looks to me like the exhaust goes into a Y shape in the middle muffler (resonator?) then straight into the backbox. Not really sure where to go now!

So what sort of configuration would it have to be on Shudes 208 CLK55 or my SL500 where there is only one backbox?

I've seen some CKS performance exhaust systems that modify the system to have an X pipe, no secondary cats and dual tail pipes. I suppose this would be potentially the right solution but not cheap though if I recall correctly.

The CLK55 will be almost exactly the same as my C43 de-cat.

I have seen some CKS systems too....

This is the one I saw that I thought looked quite neat and tidy.

I suppose you're right it does look like it has an air of the Staines Masssive about it.

So back to the point then, what sort of system is it for a clk or Sl where there is only one rear silencer, is it possible to make a crossflow system up by eliminating the middle silencer as well as the front cats or would that prove to be a little on the loud side?

The C43 has a similar set up (one rear silencer) and the decat and resonator bypass works fine. I just love it. Just open up a bit when in an enclosed area and you have people jumping :D

I have four of the C55 pipes left. I can also get them to fit CLK55 209.
