C63 AMG - Engine Trouble :(

C63 amg 08,

This last week has been a nightmare brought my first c63 from merc Birmingham central approved car by them got it back home in Devon only 47k miles on when I got back heard a ticking noise(very slight) sounded like a injector clicking. Thought nothing about it. Next day took the car for a nice drive show it off as I love the sound it makes the noise ticking was getting louder and louder. Then booked it into merc Benz AMG EXETER marsh barton(service manger Richard really nice guy) had one of his guys listen the the noise hydraulic lifter sounded really bad. Said don't drive it no more after more investigation. I need new cams new valves new tappets the whole lot needs to be replaced £4000 bill so far and that's just what they can tell now, i have asked for a full report on why this happened. After loads of grief with the approved merc warranty company. Because the car is approved and been serviced to the right standard They will pay the whole bill. I've asked for pics to be taken of all parts and rebuild and report to be made available so I can post it to you guys I MUST SAY THAT MERC BENZ IN EXETER MARSH BARTON ARE THE BEST IVE EVER DEALT WITH. THEY HAVE BEEN GREAT FROM DAY 1. My first post so sorry if I've missed some thing out. Thanks to this site I've got loads of info and used this as a way of getting the warranty to pay the bill AS THEY SHOULD. I'll keep you guys posted and hope this helps anyone else out who may have troubles with there's PICS AND REPORT TO FOLLOW.

Surely if you buy a car and the engine starts knocking the next day, whoever sold it to you *has* to pay the whole bill. regardless of servicing or approval?

Additionally, if it is an MB Approved car, you can replace it with another if you wanted to?

Sorry to read about your car stevec63. Welcome to the forum. Hopefully your car will be back on the road soon enough. Not a nice start to MB ownership

I wanted this car as I like the spec inside and the car just feels good to me, so it don't matter who pays the BILL as long as the car is fixed and runs like it should, if you buy the car private YOU would not have a leg to stand on if you found out afterwards the engine was shot. The noise was not there when I brought the car. The guys from the merc Benz garage checked a valve. I don't know what this is.(if some one knows I'd love to be told what it maybe) they did say it's on there recall list thou. THE VALVE. I know many people have not been given the info I have as merc Benz don't want to admit there at fault. So my feed here is to help all that might have the same problem or in the future have this problem. I've had BMW m5 512bhp I've had rs4 I've had rs6 when I was a younger man had cosworth Lancia delta inter turbo so I love cars and I love this one with a passion so that's why I want to keep it and stick with it and as far as I'm concerned engine us going to be nearly new so all good. And I'm glad to be part of the community thanks again

I assume its the dreaded valve bucket failure which causes premature wear on the cams. This in turn causes the ticking noise.
Good news is that if you are getting a new engine you will also be getting the uprated head bolts.
I will be replacing the head bolts with ARP studs and potentially fitting m159 buckets just as a precaution.....not cheap but the car is worth it.

Welcome to the forum and now get ready to start spending some money modifying it!!!!

Thanks lee, I'll be checking that they will be up grading the head bolt you never know might put the old one back in ha ha ha. I would love to mod the car but warranty is void if I do. Limited slip diff is where I'm looking at going if I do and pro upgrade done by merc maybe on the cars. I do love the car it's a beast on the road and sounds amazing. Can't wait
One more week and cars back. I'm driving a c180 ha ha ha estate can't get any worst. I'll be posting all pics on here and receipts to say what's been changed.
Does anyone have any info on upgrades that won't void the warranty

Picked up my car today after 2plus weeks sound tight and so responsive, got it home and bloody engine management light is on, so going back at 8am to have this looked at, I've had enough now also WHO EVER THE MECHANIC WAS FOR GOT TO LINE THE BUMPER BACK UP, I'm so angry, also got all the old parts that where replaced and list so watch out for this, I'll post pics of car and every thing else at some point tomorrow. Feel really let down at the moment

The fault on the car is a CAM sensor fault, because they have replaced the cams, I have had to leave the car with them YET AGAIN. Can anyone tell me if this has done any damage to other parts of the engine. The car started ok and ran ok. Not the way is should have done. Just need to know if any damaged could have happened due to there mistake on setting the cam ect

I can't answer your question, but I'm sorry to hear of your woes.

Did you query whether the mechanic was AMG competent, as they only have a couple per dealer who are sent to AMG for training?

The cam sensor is common to most models, no specialist AMG technician required there.
It won't have damaged the engine.

There saying it's a cam problem. I just think it might be the cam sensor as they have been in that area of the car replacing the cams and everything else that was needed. If they fitted the cams wrong surely the car would not start. And if it did would this damage the engine in any way.
The garage is merc-AMG so would have thought they would be qualifided in AMG cars. Just ****** off they have had my car longer than I have.

Steve! Really sorry to hear about this, not heard of too often but a royal pain as you mention if it does have issues, really hope you start enjoying the car soon. Do post up pics of parts replaced with a write up for our education.
Thanks,
Kamal

No one is sent to AMG for training in a MB main dealer.

Hello Olly, I'll rephrase it - at MB Central Birmingham there are two techs, both reporting to the workshop manager, who have had specific AMG training - they are regarded as the dealership's AMG technical specialists.

At MB Salisbury the guy who sold me my car in August last year had just returned from receiving some specific AMG product training - I was led to believe (from him) that it was in Germany.

Both examples are only what the dealerships told me - they could, of course, both be telling porkies.

None of my mates that work in a MB dealer have had any AMG training at all from AMG. Like all techs, they learn on the job.
