C63 AMG - Engine Trouble :(

... but also a very good illustration of MB doing the right thing to sort things out :-)

Yup - but it took a solicitors letter to get them to listen to me. Customer services where downright unhelpful and rude up until that point simply saying you'll get your car back when its fixed, no discussion at all.

Well, its showing on the askmid database as being insured so does that mean someone is running it?

No - its still sat at the local dealer waiting to go back to Mercedes Benz World tomorrow... I'll be moving my insurance from one car to the other later today or tomorrow. The vehicle changes over on the finance tomorrow, which is when I will insure the other one :)

I bought a hand built one man built one hand crafted engine, not one thats been butchered by a load of local dealership technicians for 4 months...

The one man, one engine, hand built stuff is rubbish, but irrespective, it wasn't that good was it?

Now a skilled dealer technician has rebuilt it, it will probably be fine.

It looks like you may not be out of the woods yet.

Apparently Florian Brader and crew have been having too many trips out of the shed in Donny to the pub and not leaving the oven on long enough.

AMG engines now seem to be made of butter. Possibly how they make and sell/lease them so cheaply now.

I did ancient history for A level.

The O/p's replacement car is older than 2011.

Has the faulty manufacture been sorted yet, or are Florian and Co, still giving it large in the boozer?

Ah. I believe it has now but pre 2011 cars are still susceptible from what I read. Then you've got the head bolt problem....

Hi all, same problem with my 56 plate ml63 with 57k, some nice bloke backed into it with a transit tipper in a pub carpark damaging the bonnet and headlight then drove off without stopping.

so a claim on my own insurance to fix it, when i return to the repairers it had developed this noise as it wasnt there before i dropped it off, as i had only had a full MB service done 2 weeks ealier with no noise plus a full inspection before i bought the car 4weeks before that again no noise, plus before that the previous owner had it serviced at 53k in sept 12 with no noise issues as i have spoken to the MB specialist that carried out the service. Admiral my insures are saying im liable for the repairs not them even though the issue happened whilst being repaired.

Hi all, same problem with my 56 plate ml63 with 57k,

Admiral my insures are saying im liable for the repairs not them even though the issue happened whilst being repaired.

If the problem really is the camshafts and followers have worn out, then it isn't anything to do with the collision, it is a manufacturing defect.

yes i know it has had nothing to do with the collision, as there was no mechanical damage. but my concern/argument is that when i dropped off the vehicle is was running fine and had just had a no expense spared service at MB 650miles earlier and an inspection pre purchase and another service by the last owner only 3k before i bought the car.
all im saying is ive done my research for that particular car hpi, aa inspection, service at MB but it doesnt stop the damage, i have my own idea how this has happened and i believe it has been revved when cold and due to the engine havine flat lifters etc. it should not be revved above 3000rpm before the oil has reached 95C and not moved for at least 10 secounds after a cold start to let the valve train lubricate. and moving it in and out of the workshop and taking it on a 2 mile test drive (why i dont know as it had a new bonnet and grill) and could of been chipped damaged on test. and the bloke doing the test may have thought lets see how quick these motors are. I know the last bit is almost impossible to prove but i live in the real world and as i car valeter ive seen and heard vehicles being thrashed by garage employees as it sometimes the only time they get to drive something that powerfull.

You can't over rev a Mercedes petrol engine in neutral and the C63 has built in temperature threshold limiters, so won't rev if not fully warm.

Most likely is that due to prolonged standing the oil drained down and when restarted the unhardened metal became damaged.

Hi all again just a little update from my end with this issue on the engine noise/problem admiral had an independent inspection reg. the noise issue and he has confirmed that it is the cams etc. but he also states it is a prob know to mercedes so as its know fault its up to me to pay but he says mercedes may contribute as part of exceptional warranty. ive got an initial estimate of £3808 for the repair, but as rob said earlier it needs a special tool w156589016300 from AMG Germany to carry out the repair, can anyone tell me how many AMG centers there are in the uk i have one in lincoln but i cant find out the others as if its a common fault with the engine as admiral are saying then this tool should be about in the UK and available, im struggling to find it with my limited knowledge

Hi many thanks for the info

I often wondered why the 6.3 engine didn't have a long build life and was/is being replaced by the twin turbo 5.5 engine......I'm assuming that the 5.5 doesn't have these problems or is it still too early to tell?

The 6.2 Litre engine was shelved for no other reason than fuel economy.

Other manufacturers (BMW, Audi etc) are all moving to smaller capacity multi-turbo engines that offer significant economy gains.

Yes but the other reason along with yours is emissions as they become strict the car company's try and keep the power output but loose the big engines
That's what Lamborghini and Aston Martin are two of a few that still make v12 engines but now v8 turbos make the same power and less emissions

6.2 AMG engine still in use in SLS, albeit dry sumped and more powerful
