as I'm sure one or two of your are aware, I've been crazy enough to order a new C63 AMG to replace what was my old 9-month old example....just to get a different colour, the new PP+ and a leather dash! I also ordered this pretty much last minute but did secure the last one allocated for the UK before the next build slot in June.

The aim was to get the car before April so I avoided the extra tax increase but after getting a letter from MB confirming an estimated factory collection date of the 15th April, I'd sort of written off that idea.

Then, to my horror, Maff posted on here that his C63 order, also with leather dash, would be delayed by a further 8 weeks after the original build date due to said leather dash. On finding this out, I immediately contacted my MB dealer who said they, nor MB HQ had heard anything about this.

So, given I'm barely 2 weeks away from the original estimated collection date, over a week on from the quoted build date and had still heard nothing, I emailed my MB dealer for an update on Monday. After getting no response I called them today only to be told that they could not give me anymore information and I'd just have to wait until MB UK contacted me. I then asked for the number of the department that looks after factory collection at MB HQ so I could call them and chase it myself and after much reluctance, my salesman gave this to me.

On contacting HQ and speaking to the department that 'wasn't for customers to call' I was told that my car would indeed be held up by a further 8 weeks due to the Designo option and my dealer should have told me this when I ordered it as it affects all cars that have any Designo option (the car gets shipped from the main factory to the AMG factory for the Designo option to be fitted and is then returned to the collection centre or delivered to the dealer :wallbash:).

They also said that if the dealer had contacted them they would have told them this  which infuriated me as it demonstrated that my dealer either didn't chase this at all with MB or were lying to me.

Basically, I told the nice lady at MB HQ that unless the car could be collected during April, I would be cancelling my order with the dealer. At which point she did some further investigation and then told me that the car could indeed be back at the collection centre for the 19th April and I could collect it a week or so later. So, I've now arranged collection for the 26th April and so long as the car makes it to the collection centre in Stuttgart for the 19th then I am happy. :D

What I am furious about is the lack of effort on the dealers part to get this sorted or even get the right information for me (even when, thanks to Maff, I gave them the information myself!) - I honestly think I would have been looking at the end of May for delivery had I not dealt with it myself. I find this quite amazing given that the salesman's (and I believe the dealers) bonus is highly influenced by getting a very positive customer satisfaction score, something I'm not very inclined to give after this experience!!

That's pretty poor service, but in 25 years of car buying, sadly it seems to be par for the course. Once you order, you are an inconvenience.

Glad you did get a date sorted though!

Your story sadly highlights what (in the main) lazy sods dealers are. I apologise of course to the few dealers/individuals who buck this trend, but all to often they promise the world, deliver next to nothing, patronise you throughout the process and of course you the paying customer has to do all the leg work too!

What other so called "service" industries would tolerate this level of arrogance?

Sorry folks for this rant, but experiences such as Palmball's are sadly not that uncommon.

Seems this is unfortunately the norm for most stealers...

Happily the purchase of an MX5 for my girlfriend a few years ago (now wife) was supperb, nothing was too much trouble and over three yrs of owning the car it was a pleasure.

I would comment that buying a luxury car the service should be better...but NO, it should be the same no matter what. Service is still service, and it is annoying when you have to chase people up when its their job to know / do.

No doubt its like buying a house, you soon forget about the nightmare chasing solicitors / banks etc once your moved in..not to mention the costs... :)

This is a reminder of the "great" MB sales people who clearly doesn't give a toss.

Perhaps you should indicate (demand!) an adjustment to the total price of the car as you have just done the sales persons job!

Such a shame superb cars but mercedes really need to sort out their Dealer network My local MB main Agent has got bad attitute down to a fine art to the extent that I would rather drive to MB Brooklands for anything than go to the local place

Sorry to jump in again on this thread with my less than positive MB main dealer attitude. My CLK just 3 years old (warranty expired Sat). Prior to warranty expiry had MOT done at local main dealer, and pointed out several issues I felt could be addressed under warranty.

On day, job sheet made no mention of earlier agreed work schedules despite emailing job in to minimise loss of translation over phone, and having subsequent phone conversation regarding email contents- shocking lack of basic service and a poor start to days events!!!

To compound their poor grasp of my needs the dealer then fobbed me off on collection, claiming the issues raised were invalid and that car in near A1 state. I seriously doubt if any work/inspections took place other than basic MOT.

As car now outside warranty (I actually grateful surprisingly) I now seeking alternative opinion at an Indie next week- MB Tech Warrington.

Main dealers at moment not my favourite people!!

I think the service you get and what you expect between a luxury marque and one of the more general brands is inverse. One guy selling a C63 will probably have made his commision for the week with one sale whereas a salesman at a Kia franchise will probably need 1 sale a day minimum so will be more inclined to keep customers coming back.

I was watching a TV show the other week when someone made the point that you shouldn't ask for the best salesman, you should ask for the second best as they are more likely to try harder.

I guess out here it is a bit different. The only competition for Mercedes is the BMW/JAG/Range Rover/AUDI/Bentley/Porsche/Aston dealer which is the same dealer in the same showroom. Admittdley VW and Mitsibushi's are kick round the back of the dealers building.

So if you want a Merc, you get the merc saleman. He also does the Porsches. If you want a Beemer you get a different guy, who also does the second hand car lot!

Jag and Audi done by someone else and Premium makes are the remit of the dealer principle.

The entire service section is totally branded in Mercedes, however all cars go in there. One guy (so they tell me) is AMG trained. I think he is Mercedes trained, and he does the pre delivery on All Mercs.

My sales guy was very helfpul and kept me up to speed with everything. That said, I do work next door and popped in a few times on the way home, so he hardly had much choice.

When we did the deal I had worked out what I felt was the dealer margin they could afford so gave them a price I would be happy with. they spent 3 minutes looking at it, and agreed. Everyone happy.

In this case, I would make your compliant to MB HQ. Don't ask for anything, just say it is not what you expected and this has been a let down to your expectations and your satisfaction is lowered as a result.

then when you get the MB feedback, put the same in that.

It might result in something. It might not.

1000miles on, you will have forgotten, but you probably best avoid the dealer again.

I am still unsure about getting mine serviced here. They might do a good job, but they might not be capable of doing a good job as well....

Yes, it is Stuttgart. I've also asked for those exact dates! I guess I won't know until the morning if I actually get them but hopefully theres no reason why not.

We should have an AMG meet at the factory lol!

I went a bit further than that and went to Audi(A5 cab) i wanted an E class convertable but MB(lookers group) couldn't be bothered.:dk:

I had a voicemail to say they have reserved the hotel and flights for those dates they are just waiting on confirmation of the second hotel, so bar any volcanic ash problems (I'm currently stranded in Milan!) then I will be collecting on the morning of the 26th post factory tour.
I've also booked a hotel on the way home just outside Reims in France to break up the journey.

How typical you wait ages then two come at once! :)

That`s very good news for both of you,so maybe a race down would be nice

Great news for the both of you !

looking forward to the pics .. especially the RED one!
