C63 Coupe "Soup to Nuts"

Welcome! Great choice, and nice to see one that will not be white!

Have you seen the Goodwood Track day thread in the events section? might be a good way to get to know what your new car can do.

New to the forums but as I mentioned in my "Introduce yourself" thread, I thought I'd start a thread on the whole experience of buying, driving and running a C63 Coupe from new.

I'm sure there are a hundred threads on the forum re specific queries and questions, but not sure if anyone has started and kept running a "long term test" on this model.

I was lucky enough to order my new car yesterday. It's due for delivery on the new plate in late March or early April, so the waiting starts here. This is my first new Mercedes, and also my first AMG so it should be an interesting learning curve.

I'll post a few thoughts on the buying experience, test drive, spec, etc in a follow-up post shortly rather than stretch this opener to 100 lines...

Cheers
K

Hi Khamen,

Would be very interesting to see what your views are on the 63 Coupe. I've owned my saloon for 12 1/2 months now which was my first AMG and have to say its a wonderful and very exciting car to own.

I have been keeping a diary of my experiences and have noted a few things on this forum which maybe of some interest to you. I think when putting both cars back to back the main difference of these two models, yours being the newer face lift version, will be the gearbox which I havent had a go of yet but have heard really good things about.

I think the one thing I did do to my car which I dont recommend to everyone as its a prrsonal preference thing was having the ECU remapped to push it to 520 ps (513 BHP) and 650 nms. For me it was perfect as it gave that little bit of an edge to the car as well as open up the throttle curve to 100% (Which AMG hold back when they deliver to their customers).

All in all they are awesome cars and give a lot of presence on the roas or track. I have had mine twice rouind Goodwood now and had the pleasure of letting a Formula 1 test driver use my car while sitting in the passenger seat, which I found out the limits of mine and just how good these cars feel on track and not just the road.

Enjoy fella, you own a really well fixed and placed piece of kit and I look forward to hearing your updates about the coupe. :thumb:

"Dear god! Not sure about super unleaded, this thing sounds like it's been feeding on a cocktail of orphans and small planets."

Brilliant! What a description! :)

"I work in the finance business"

Ah! So THAT'S how you can afford it!:devil:

Sounds a real beauty. Really hope it exceeds your expectations.
You do realise that photos are mandatory on this forum when it arrives? :thumb:

this is going to be an interesting thread..

For me the noise has got louder as the car has mellowed out and got a little older.... she now pops and bangs delightfully when lifting off the throttle... Love it! :D

A note on insurance.

I obviously can't take out a policy for the new car yet but have done plenty of enquiring. As usual my current provider is basically useless, particularly as the new car slots neatly into my renewal term.

Without going into the gory details I had a good rummage - 40-something, car garaged, 12k p.a. low risk postcode area.

No claims is 4 years - before this I was driving on a fleet policy for 5 years (with no claims) but good old insurance co.s don't give a toss about this and don't count them, letter or no.

License is in good shape, although not spotless with 3 points for speeding a few years back still hanging around.

I had heard that people had got some stupid quotes on this car, up to £4k. I was pleasantly surprised that the best quote I could find was under £800 fully comp with a £750 excess. Most expensive was pushing £2k.

Of course when I am actually in a position to take out a policy I'm sure it's not going to really be £800...

Hi Don, hope you are well sir and had a good Xmas and New Year mate..

Yes I stayed with Mercedes Benz who are underwritten by Aviva when I got the free weeks insurance when I bought the car. Tehy weren't too bad, not the cheapeast but you seem to get a lot back. Also as Don says direct line are very good.

Khamen - how did you get them to only take a 2k deposit?
Would be interested to know. Did you get any extra off the deal that is currently advertised on the MB site?
Thanks.

I would imagine the offer on the website is just an example of the offer available but it's up to you how much deposit you want to put down?

I was also putting in a part-ex on a 57-plate Golf GT TDi 170, although they can't have that until the AMG arrives. The £2k was a cash deposit to secure the order.

I tried but didn't get anything else off apart from the 12% or so that MB Finance are offering via the Agility promotion, although I tried to drop another couple of thousand. Not sure about this as I'm sure MB subsidise the £7k "contribution" to the dealer, so you would think the dealer perhaps has a little more room to move?

Having said that it's a good deal - the "deposit contribution" is in effect a further discount, and whether that is paid for by the dealer or MB is largely irrelevant to me overall.

The dealer rang today and told me the factory have given them an April delivery date, but they are pushing to move it forward to March. Will see what they come up with.

Congrats.

I secured my order before Chrismtas with £1k depsoit, have never heard or had to put down anymore on any car.

I also didn't go for the PP for the same reasons you state, just didn't seem worth it + I hate red break callipers!

Apparently there's a shortage of Carbon Fibre at Mercedes factory so it's a 3 month delivery time for cars with no CF, roughly 5 months for a car with CF! My short wait has turned into a slightly longer one.

Look forward to reading your thread in the future.

Khamen, welcome to the forum, great choice IMHO given what you looked at, pretty much the same list I had (+Aston Martin on my list) and I too decided on the axe murder on wheels in the end! I'm sure you'll love every bit of it every time your turn the key - enjoy! There are plenty of MB lovers and specifically AMG fans here who will be a great source of knowledge when you want questions answered too.

Congratulations on ordering a beast.

I agree with the PPP, I ordered mine without, couldn't justify the price for an extra 30bhp. I've never owned a car longer than 6 months, so the fact I've had mine for 18 months now is a testament to how epic this car is. I think it's the noise that keeps me loving it, not to mention the ferocious acceleration.

I only put £2k down in the first instance as a returning customer and made the rest up a couple of months later.

Re PPP I had read so much about it and how it had to be on C63's. I was tempted but for hooning around as I do and not intending to track the car I was told I probably wouldn't notice the difference. I followed this advice in the end and to date I loose traction so often I certainly don't miss it and in Sport Plus mode the car is ferral as it is.

Definitely getting noticably louder already by the way which is fine by me!

Great choice of car, congrats, look forward to hearing your impressions, great piece of kit.

10EDD - do you have the lsd on yours?
I too have put down 2k to place the order and will pay the balance on delivery.
