It lives!
Was working in the US last week when the dealer called me to tell me the car would be with them on Wednesday - a jump of another week forward.
Landed at Heathrow this morning and - using the excuse I needed milk anyway after a week away - headed straight from the airport to have a look at my pending pride and joy, and clear up any loose paperwork that could be done.
Well I wasn't disappointed. Even sitting outside in the rain, hemmed in by other non-AMG C-classes and covered in odds and ends of "packaging" the in-the-flesh result of all the speccing and umming/arring pretty much took my breath away.
My main concern was how it would look. Until you actually see one in the metal to your exact colour combo there's always a little paranoia, but I'm pleased as I could be with my finished product.
In many pictures, particularly of the white C63 coupe it looks pretty dumpy in profile beacuse of that wide expanse of bare metal between rear wheel arch and high waistline. The magnetite black is a beautiful foil to this as the almost-charcoal-gunmetal finish defines all those lovely lines and bulges around there that give the rear end more purpose and character than other colours I have seen. Works particularly well with the 19" multi-spokes in titanium.
Interior of red/black combo leather with standard aluminium trim is utterly beautiful, and the engine - completely new and with everything shiny, is nothing less than a weapon of mass destruction. Talk about filling an engine bay!
I took a couple of quick shots on the phone camera as it sat on the lot, but couldn't really get much as it was more or less surrounded. They are going to have to do until I go and officially take possession next weekend. Next week promises to be extremely long.
Happy to post the 2 pics I did get if people want a sneak preview rather than waiting for the formal introduction next weekend.
I finalised several other bits of paperwork this morning as well, so all I need to do next weekend is drop in the part-ex and get taken through the basics by the dealer's handover manager (who I met today and seems a thoroughly nice chap).
Once again the guys at the dealership have been professional, efficient and incredibly easy to deal with - all round a good experience, so let's hope no ****-ups at the final hurdle (or as we go into after-care of course...).
And finally...
If ever a car deserved the male gender this prety much must be it, but cars are all female right? So as I sat there looking at "her" a name popped into my head pretty much immediately. She's loud, teutonic and, err, a little over-endowed.
Can't wait to get Brunhilde home next weekend ;p
