C63 Coupe "Soup to Nuts"

Hi Seven: No, again on advice from previous C63 owners but on this occasion I think I have missed out and would second time around. The reason is that it honestly doesn't take much to get out of shape which is great fun but a LSD would be really beneficial when pulling away with any kind of steering lock on.

The waiting continues...

Latest update from the dealer is that the car is due to go into build on 24th March with a 20th April date slated for delivery. The plan is to try to get this moved forward as much as possible (the dealer would rather like to get this onto March for their year end numbers I think, but that may be a touch optimistic).

Using my very basic maths then that means current lead times on a new order under normal circumstances are c. 14 weeks with no weird/special specs on the build.

Agonising no doubt - as a point of reference mine arrived at my dealer's 6 days after coming off line. You should be able to get a pretty accurate date from about 2 weeks before build from memory. It was about 2 days to get to the docks from the factory, 2 days to the UK from there and 2more to arrive ready for PDI and hand over.
Good luck,
Edd

Some good news after a couple of weeks of silence. Delivery has been moved forward to late March. gets the sale into the dealer's books for year end and gets me my new wheels about 4 weeks earlier than previously expected.

Should be safe in the garage by 24th March

i pick mine up in 3 hours!!!! :)

So I needed to do some of the faff around the order this week, like sending over the details for the first registration and sorting out collection date and time. Plus of course finalising insurance...

Dealer was very helpful and booked me in a slot early in the morning to collect the car on my chosen day.

I called M-B Insurance (Aviva I believe) for a quote and was pleasantly surprised. M-B insurance give you "complimentary" 7 day cover after you collect the car anyway and I needed to get that sorted out (although could not be finalised as no reg number yet).

Anyway, with max (5 years) no claims taken into consideration and 3 points for speeding some 4 years back I got a fully comp quote of £460.20 for the year. This does not need a tracker, and is about £200 cheaper than the next best! Bonus!

It's also only about £100 a year more than I get charged to insure a 4 year old Golf...

So very happy with that and in general the whole experience has been rather painless so far. Of course I haven't got the car yet, but...

One interesting thing was told to me by the dealer this afternoon. Apparently AMG have now "run out of engines" due to a high level of demand for things with the 6.2 V8, and the number of 5.5 twin turbos they are putting out. As such if I were to order the car today I would apparently be looking at a July delivery date - 4 months compared to the 2.5 I am expecting.

Hopefully the next post from me on this will be following delivery in just about 3 weeks

They need to get some robots. Easier to turn the dial to "fast" than human hands :D

I've just seen a new C63 coupe on the road - it looks fantastic .

The next time I drive my C63 - if it ever comes out of the garage, I'm going to start wearing a flat cap and pretend to be smoking a pipe to see what reaction (if any) I get from other drivers. Oh and let's not forget the 'nodding dog' for the back window.

Khamen- that's a great quote for insurance. If you don't mind me asking how old are you and I am presuming you must be in a good postcode area (don't think you are too far from me actually). The cheapest quote I have, and that is not doing it for the actual delivery date as that is more than 30 days ahead,so it is only a hypothetical one is 616 and that is with 10 years NCD and no convictions. Perhaps I will try Mercedes closer to the time!

I'm early 40s. Was getting quotes around the £650-700 mark. Best was £520 but that needed tracker. Was pleasantly surprised by the MB Insurance quote if I'm honest. Worth noting that they also fix quotes for 60 days, although cannot issue any documentation etc until reg no known.

They rang the dealer for me, got the reg number and set up the 7 day "free" insurance and the main policy at the same time. Good service and great price

Yes mate, C63 Spurs, at least I'll enjoy the drive to and from the game......

It lives!

Was working in the US last week when the dealer called me to tell me the car would be with them on Wednesday - a jump of another week forward.

Landed at Heathrow this morning and - using the excuse I needed milk anyway after a week away - headed straight from the airport to have a look at my pending pride and joy, and clear up any loose paperwork that could be done.

Well I wasn't disappointed. Even sitting outside in the rain, hemmed in by other non-AMG C-classes and covered in odds and ends of "packaging" the in-the-flesh result of all the speccing and umming/arring pretty much took my breath away.

My main concern was how it would look. Until you actually see one in the metal to your exact colour combo there's always a little paranoia, but I'm pleased as I could be with my finished product.

In many pictures, particularly of the white C63 coupe it looks pretty dumpy in profile beacuse of that wide expanse of bare metal between rear wheel arch and high waistline. The magnetite black is a beautiful foil to this as the almost-charcoal-gunmetal finish defines all those lovely lines and bulges around there that give the rear end more purpose and character than other colours I have seen. Works particularly well with the 19" multi-spokes in titanium.

Interior of red/black combo leather with standard aluminium trim is utterly beautiful, and the engine - completely new and with everything shiny, is nothing less than a weapon of mass destruction. Talk about filling an engine bay!

I took a couple of quick shots on the phone camera as it sat on the lot, but couldn't really get much as it was more or less surrounded. They are going to have to do until I go and officially take possession next weekend. Next week promises to be extremely long.

Happy to post the 2 pics I did get if people want a sneak preview rather than waiting for the formal introduction next weekend.

I finalised several other bits of paperwork this morning as well, so all I need to do next weekend is drop in the part-ex and get taken through the basics by the dealer's handover manager (who I met today and seems a thoroughly nice chap).

Once again the guys at the dealership have been professional, efficient and incredibly easy to deal with - all round a good experience, so let's hope no ****-ups at the final hurdle (or as we go into after-care of course...).

And finally...

If ever a car deserved the male gender this prety much must be it, but cars are all female right? So as I sat there looking at "her" a name popped into my head pretty much immediately. She's loud, teutonic and, err, a little over-endowed.

Can't wait to get Brunhilde home next weekend ;p
