So I've had the C63 for just over 2 months now, but have only covered a pitiful 1300 miles. I don't use it as my daily driver, and have been away on holiday, but it's still no great excuse. Oh well, will have to make up for it next summer when I can drive with the windows down more often.
Anyway, to the car...it's, erm, running well. I'm now over the 1000 mile mark, however the only significance of that was that I could finally use Race Start. There's a bit of a knack to it in that you must press firmly on the brake pedal for the car to allow you to select RS on the transmission dial thingy. I did my first RS with the wife in the car and she thought it was brilliant. Amazing! I thought she'd give me a telling off, but the C63 has obviously starting working its way into her affections. As for the Race Start, and from Youtube videos I'd seen, I was under the impression it was purely a 3500rpm clutch dump, but it's definitely more than that. You really can feel it - and I don't want to say holding back - but feel it giving you just enough thrust to maintain optimum acceleration. I was very impressed with the traction it 'found' and have no doubts there's no way I could have launched it as quick. Anyway, at some point I'll take a short vid of it in action
The car is otherwise running well. I've not yet had to top up the oil, or even the washer fluid for that matter, but of course I keep on adding V-power at a rate that keeps my AMEX perpetually warm. Fortunately fuel is at its cheapest (*laughs*) since I collected the car which eases the conscious, if not the wallet, to a noticeable degree. As for rattles, well 'The Rattle' seems to have settled down such that I've not heard it for a good month. Perhaps it's temperature related? However the COMAND rattle is still there and, if anything, is getting louder. Defo getting that bug5er sorted out! I also have rattles from the IP demist vents (between the dash and the windscreen), although it's more of a high frequency buzz on course road surfaces. I can stop all the rattles with carefully placed pressure applications, so at least I can pass over as much info as possible to the dealer to help them fix it. I've yet to bring this up with the dealer as I'm still a good 700 miles away from the car going in for her LSD oil change, and at the rate I'm going it'll be nearly Xmas before I'm at that point. As ever I'll keep the forum updated on the outcome.
As so finally, and as has been mentioned in other threads (I'm looking at you Aquanaut!), I've had a 'secret mission' planned for the C63 that was going to earn me a few £££, or in C63 terms a good half dozen tankfuls of V-power. Why a secret? Well the detail is still not to be shared fully (I've signed a non-disclosure agreement), however I can say that I've been in touch with a major computer games company for them to record the C63 for one of their upcoming racing games. And all of this came together today. On a murky (and cold!) airfield today we, after spending a good few hours instrumenting the car for sound, headed out to the runway and went through what I can honestly say was an extremely comprehensive series of pre-designed tests to get the very most from the car from an aural perspective. This included all sorts of pops, farts, cracks, gurgles and bangs from the exhaust, a couple of Race Starts and a fair bit of rev limiter (lucky it's run in!). All in all I hope my car did the C63s of this world justice. Certainly the sound guys, who have been testing all sorts of exotica, were very impressed with the C63. So anyway, at some point in the future they'll be a new console racer coming out with, certainly in my mind, extremely realistic AMG sounds. Happy days! Here's a pic of the car prior to instrumenting:
Oh, and as consumption is always a point of interest to both C63 and non-C63 people, I thought I'd post the picture below. The first 60 miles of this journey were my commute to the airfield, whereby I was at around 21mpg (it would have been more but I had explored the top speed limiter on the way down. Twice.), however over the next 17 miles I managed to get that down somewhat:
Other points worth mentioning? Well I found that the top speed limiter kicks in at an indicated 160mph. Oh, and earlier today I had a bit of a ding-dong with 2 chaps in a lovely looking '02 place SL55. They were jolly good sports and their car sounded great, even with my windows up. It also proved something else: Either the SL55 is heavily hampered by its 5 speed 'box, their car was not in the best state of health, or that my 'carefully run-in' D) C63 is rather fast. Did I thrash them? Yes. Badly.
P.S. Whilst at the airfield today, and prior to the car being instrumented, I had a few minutes spare, along with a nice dusty hangar to play in. Well, you would wouldn't you...
