C63 Estate Ordered!

There is already increasing progressive taxation in the UK ..

Why should scrappage be income or asset dependent?

Scrappage was to stimulate the motor trade, any other benefits (like removing old vehicles) were incidental entirely because, scientifically, scrapping a perfectly good car to be replaced by a newly manufactured one uses way more energy than keeping the old one on the road for the rest of its natural life. Keeping that vehicle on the road would also provide cheap transport for those with limited incomes and provide jobs from mechanics through to pattern parts suppliers. Most of the scrappage cars bought were made in Korea or Malaysia.

Using a relative's banger to purchase a car you were going to buy anyway, regardless of the purchaser's wealth, is against the spirit of the scheme and is in effect defrauding the taxpayer by abusing a (crappy) scheme brought in to help alleviate the cost of purchasing a new car in a recession.

Anyway, getting political. Suffice to say if I were in your shoes I'd not have used scrappage to buy my new car.

You say "tax planning", the Government calls it "tax avoidance", I call it "tax evasion". Potato/potahto.

Firstly, its not a relatives car, its my car, with my name on the V5.

Secondly, think what you will about the scheme (as you obviously object to it), but I am doing everything within the guidelines of the scheme, so how you can call it 'abuse' or 'fraud' is a rather strange comment.

In your mind it maybe classed as abuse (and probably others too), in my mind I’m taking full advantage of a government scheme paid for by my taxes.

Come to think of it think I might go and order a new boiler now as well, I’ve got a few houses with old boilers in them I can use ;)

Like I said, see the difference between tax planning/avoidance/evasion for where I'm coming from - if you don't grasp that then fair enough, but from where I'm sitting I see a rich person extracting every last penny they're "entitled to" from people who need it very much more than they do through using a scheme intended for one purpose for a very different one entirely.

Would you claim unemployment benefit the day after you lose your job, even if you had millions in a stock portfolio? Same deal.

Anyway, waaaaaay too far from the OP's post...

...

yawn, marxism went out of fashion years ago :p:rolleyes:

Out of interest - what happens to the speeding tickets picked up in the UK on German export plates...

I'm scrapping my old 124 against an S Class. I don't agree with the merits of the scheme the government trumpet. But I'm doing nothing wrong. Don't worry Maff. This makes me smile in the same way you can exempt a Phantom from the congestion charge.

Way to get this thread Off Topic........cheers guys......

Damn, something else I can half benefit from by changing the boilers in my houses, but as I can't live in them someone else will benefit.

Tax.....interesting issues I guess.

It's not often that I get opinionated but in this case I'm going to make an exception!

I am surprised at this argument - it's fundamentally flawed as anyone has the right to claim what they are entitled to. So, if I was in the position described above, then YES I would take the unemployment benefit as long as I was legally entitled to it...why not? Just like Maff is legally entitled to use the scrappage scheme as he is the registered keeper of a car that is eligible for the scheme. If the government didn't intend for the scheme to be used in this way then it should have been more careful when implementing it...so there is no reason to chastise Maff for doing what he is legally and morally entitled to do.

Sorry for adding to it; the above is my first and final opinion on the subject!

Now, back on-topic! :D

The car is fantastic and I wish I had waited just that little wee bit longer so I could have known about the PPP option  - I might have been a little more patient and waited for one! Oh well, I'll have to stick with my slow under-powered non PPP C63 - with just the old Performance Pack, mine also has the rock-hard suspension (yes, I agree, it is extremely hard!!).

cpd1 - With regards to deal, you should be able to get 5% with no problem whatsoever - do not buy one without at least 5% off!! I reckon 8-10% is out there but will require some resilience and patience. Just remember, potential C63 owners are not exactly common so when someone obviously serious comes along, a decent salesman/dealer should not lose your business.

And, yes, some car salesmen are such ill-informed pain in the ****s to deal with so if you can't build a good rapport with them, go elsewhere; indeed, one of my regrets about moving away from BMW was that I got on so well with the guy at the BMW dealer who never fed me any bull and always knew he had to 'work' to get my business.

Also, it's great to see more C63 owners on here. So far, I think I can count the following as fellow current or potential owners....

Scumbag
mw_c32
Jack Wood
Maff
cpd1?? (Come on...you know you want to!)
Palmball (me)

Are there anymore out there??

It's quite a bitter pill to swallow knowning that even if you do manage to haggle a 5% discount, that still only brings the price back to parity with last years price! Ouch.

Surprised nobody has asked my spec yet :)

Like I said, see the difference between tax planning/avoidance/evasion for where I'm coming from

Using the scrappage scheme in accordance with its rules is NOT tax planning or tax avoidance or tax evasion. It is getting a government discount for a new car.

Very boring!

Obsidian Black
Black Nappa
Privicy Glass
LSD
COMAND
Parktronic
DAB
Logic 7
ILS
Cup Holders
Birds Eye Maple Wood
Factory Collection

And trying to get the Wheels changed from the graphite grey contrast to black contrast. Grey wheels on a black car look a little odd, in my opinion.

Ah, also forgot to add that I have had confirmation that the C63 will NOT be getting the LED DRL lights that the rest of the range is getting. At least not in the forseable future.

Maff, do you have any more info on this?

that's a cause for celebration !

Agreed, far far from boring - thats a fair amount of kit you've ordered there!

Although mine has just about every option (not my choice - was an ex-demo), I would not choose to spec half of it if I was buying brand new as I just don't use stuff like electric rear blind, luxury climate etc.

Your spec is exactly what I would choose pay for - with the addition of the Performance Pack Plus of course (Maff - I am therefore very envious of your spec!)

Well at 5k without the diff, the PPP was something I could leave. After all, it's really the family wagon, and if 460bhp isn't enough for you to hurl the kids around with, there's something terribly wrong with you :D

:thumb: Fair point. And it is ridiculous that they now charge extra for the diff - it should bloody well be standard.

all these c63's should be at the June GTG don't you think?
