I've noticed over the last few weeks the back end on my 2010 C63 saloon feels a bit 'loose' and 'knocky'. It's almost as if I have a couple of bushes that could be wearing. I can only feel it when going slowly and on particular roads (where concrete is bad - ie- road I travel down everyday by my house!). Perhaps could be top mounts? I do have the 19" wheels on it which I appreciate doesn't help for a smooth ride but it seems to have gotten worse, my other C class (c220 cdi sport) has the 18's fitted and is absolutely fine over the same roads.

Are there any common bushes that wear on the back of these, or is there a diagram available where all common failures could be to point me in the right direction? i don't really want to take it to an Indy/MD just yet as they will just say 'try this / try that' (has this on me S5, spent loads and got no where!). It passed its MOT a couple of weeks back with no advisories so I know (I hope!) its nothing dangerous at present.

Thanks

Worn or leaking shocks? Broken spring, not easy to spot.

I think the shocks are ok as it all seems dry from sight with no fluid present, the noise is more bush sounding rather than a spring I think (wouldn't a spring be more of a metal noise?)

Does this model have a rear ARB with drop links?

If it's a spring snapped, it may not even make a noise, whilst driving, will just sit a little lower one side, depending on how much broke off (if only a short piece - minimal height difference, but noticeably more 'loose' as it will be "weaker" than the other side.)
Measure wheel centre to wheelarches accurately and it may indicate, as a bit breaking off (and dropping out) difficult to see.

Thanks all, thanks for the link but that is for the W203 / earlier model?

I havent even attempted to look under it yet, was going this week so wouldn't know if it has drop links, it could sound like a drop link / bush though.

Interested in checking the springs as well, height wise the car is perfect but am sure jacking up and checking the springs wouldn't hurt either. It seems that shocks do also bring these noises (which I wasn't aware of) and surprised how cheap they are to buy (compared to my old Sl55 abc shocks!).

Get an early MOT!

It will be the cheapest way to find any worn joints or other play that's not obvious when laying underneath.

It was only MOT'd a couple of weeks ago!!!!

Nup GoodYear Eagle F1s all round! I've never had an issue with tyre pressures and always check them once a week. I had a similar noise on my Lexus but that turned out to be the top mounts on the coilovers....
