Polite Note/Shot Across the Bows :)
First of all, I'm gonna make it crystal clear from the outset that I'm NOT looking to re-ignite the old 'is it a real AMG' debate with this post - so can we please keep it civil and limit comments to the performance comparison between these two models.

I did contemplate not putting it in the AMG section but then Mercedes chose to rebrand the car as an AMG, so that's their call not mine.

So, with that out of the way: Here is a Youtube head-to-head between the C63 & C43 and whilst it's not very scientific, it's nice to see an 'on-road' comparison of the performance of the two vehicles, albeit in a straight line - some more scientific evaluation of dry/wet lateral g would have been interesting but isn't part of this video.

Skip to the end for the 0-155MPH, or you'll have to sit through the stupid way the driver revs the engines and some muppet baulking him on the Autobahn, which is frankly unforgivable ;)

SPOILER ALERT:
To me, the acceleration at legal speeds (0-100kph/0-62mph) is interesting, as despite being down on power by 109hp/130Nm the C43 manages to pace the C63 pretty well. The traction control light flickers a few times initially on the C63 - I imagine in the wet it would be a different matter.

With a few judicious mods the C43 could be one serious piece of kit: I see Babus are now selling their PowerXtra-B30 upgrade to take it to 410hp/570Nm and I'm sure there's much more this engine could give, perhaps with a change of intercooler/exhaust headers/sports cats/system - which might also improve the sound a bit, which side by side with the monstrous '63 sounds a bit.... 'wheezy' ;)

Mark :)

C63 any day, V8 is V8 but for the money the c43 is impressive bit of kit and has potential. Personally would rather opt for an M4 if I couldn't get a C63.

The 43 sounds better imo

I agree, C63 has had its day I love V8 power but the V6 biturbo sounds really sweet. I would actually look at this instead of the E if it weren't for that silly stick on ipad screen, that's a big spoiler and show stopper for me

It does look very close in terms of legal-speed performance.

I was in the AMG Performance Studio which is where AMG cars go back to for custom work at the AMG factory in Affalterbach. Off the top of my head the have around 20 or so bays, and as it was a Friday afternoon (in Germany) only half were occupied, of which 3x were G-Wagens and 4x were 43-engined cars.

Given that the prices are eye watering for the Performance Studio, the fact that these cars were there means that AMG considered the 43 engined cars to be worthy, and the owners believe that they're special enough to spend some serious money on them. They're impressive bits of kit :thumb:

^ This. The V6 sounded a bit weedy in comparison IMO.
The W204 6.2 beats them all.
No denying though the C43 has some serious performance for those who don't want the 63.

Thanks for keeping it 'on track' gentlemen :thumb:

Soundwise - totally!

The modern V8 sounds good but I fear the glory days of large capacity N/A engines are long gone. If they could improve the sound of the V6 (without acoustic fakery) I'd be happy with that.

Call it a gut feeling but I think the MY2017 revisions for the C might see the 'iPad' screen consigned to the bin ;)

Couldn't agree more :)

I hope so we are currently looking at the E400 for SWMBO although she still feels she wants a 4x4 but might get her interested in the C43 if that screen were gone. The new E has it integrated back in the dash and it looks lovely. But no dealer can provide one for us to test drive. So will prob go to the MB dealer in Mannheim who has offered me whatever I want to test.

Red triangle is for keeping distance from the car in front

It comes on when the car feels you are too close to the car in front. It thinks you won't be able to stop in time if it brakes hard in front of you.

Day to day use in the UK the C43 is a great car! But the styling compared to the C63 is not a patch.. But then again the price difference plays alot in that

The new E will be available as an E43 4matic covering all requirements in one nice package.

This engine rocks it has all the performance you can ever use on a public road and decent range on a single tank.

BM are already using six cylinder engines for M3/4, is this Mercs way of weening us off V8's and in to six's?
Start off with the C43 and up the power with facelifts etc until it makes the V8 redundant?

I know that would be ideal but not available until 2018 and don't think she will wait that long

Very handy feature but can it make a sound warning as well, like in Range Rovers? Helps when your eyes are on your phone or you're distracted by some accident you're passing :o;)
