C63 Vs C43 (C450AMG) 0 - 155MPH

I think it does make a sound, at least on our ML. I've only heard it once, and it was when a numpty pulled in front of us on the motorway, and I was too busy dealing with the situation to work out what flashed and what the noise was!

With a few judicious mods the C43 could be one serious piece of kit: I see Babus are now selling their PowerXtra-B30 upgrade to take it to 410hp/570Nm and I'm sure there's much more this engine could give, perhaps with a change of intercooler/exhaust headers/sports cats/system - which might also improve the sound a bit, which side by side with the monstrous '63 sounds a bit.... 'wheezy' ;)

Mark :)

Hypothetical of course but instead of spending all that dough to soup up a 43, wouldn't it be easier to get a 63, the performance of which one will be trying to match? Not to mention that a 63 with those mods will see a modded 43 as a dot in the rear view mirror.

For me this will come down to handling the C63 just does not handle well at speed it's too nose heavy and this is where the E63 beats it hands down a much better balanced and composed car.

I suspect the V6 removes that nose heavy problem and gets its composure closer to if not better than the E63

The deal breaker for me in both cases though is that stupid stick on iPad screen in the C which us something the more classy E doesn't have

Let it go Ian. You'll give yourself an Ulcer! :p

I have just come back this morning in an A45 great car ruined by the interior.

I can't let it go Ant that screen and the fake exhausts incense me on the W205 top money for sh*t fake chav accessories from a premium manufacturer is not on.

This mornings trip was to look at Porsche expensive on all counts but quality and class exude

Very handy feature but can it make a sound warning as well, like in Range Rovers? Helps when your eyes are on your phone or you're distracted by some accident you're passing :o;)

It will add an audible warning if it deems the situation to be critical.
Then brake if you do not respond, and a crash is imminent.

I totally agree on the fake exhaust Ian. That's unforgivable. But the iPad is a design feature that only a minority of people have an issue with. It's down to personal taste. It really can't be that bad. The sales figures are healthy.

I think it looks good, something different. Who said all cars have to have the same design ideas? (built in screens)

I can imagine how amazing your Golf is. Quality built and goes like a rocket. But IMO the interior is very plain Jane. (Although now doubt very well built)

This is all said in jest obviously. I understand how much you dislike the iPad. :thumb:

Ant. :D

Nothing wrong with the 205, what do you mean by fake exhaust? You mean the tips? They work though and look nice. I had fake tips on my old Ferrari Cali, and that's a 150k car :)

Exhaust engineering on the 205 AMG is world class!

Again A45 is nice as you say and I can't see anything wrong with the interior considering this is an entry AMG car.

The two chrome exits in the diffuser n thevW205 are fake the exhaust exits under the car in pure mild steel. Not talking about AMG cars here as they have proper exhausts and tips.

Engineering on W205 is third world not world class compared to its German peers its well below their standard and worse than Ford on some cars, again not talking AMG here as I do appreciate the engineering in those

I know that would be ideal but not available until 2018 and don't think she will wait that long
Strange as to why it's not available till then. I would look to get one myself as a 7 seater estate.
I'm struggling to get my wife to drive an E Class as a daily driver. I was looking at £18 for a nice 350 CDI which would be great until then. I might just get a new wife instead.

Ant

I totally agree with you on all points it's all down to personal taste My daughter loves that I pad screen whereas, well you know my views.

The interior of my Golf is plain but functional and ergonomic, personally I would have liked a little more in there but it was one of the compromises I made in the trade off for performance.

Golf is only my daily though and a functional car rather than something to get too excited about but it still catches a few by surprise.

I love my CLK and it's now 20 years old but still in fine fettle thanks to Olly and PCS and from an era when build quality and engineering were first class. Still puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it.

SWMBO car is the current dilemma she wants a 4x4 I'm trying to get her into a quick saloon. Suspect I may lose :-)

MB said launch end of this year available next year but first deliveries not expected until late 2017 or early 2018. Will check this as going to Germany in June so will get MB Mannheim to check RHD production schedule for me.

Coming from a guy who runs a golf as a daily, think you'll find your CLK 208 is third world now buddy.

I had a coupé for a few weeks and thought the drive on them were amazing, a definite improvement over the 204, not sure about the styling still!

205 is Pure class, well engineered cars, you chatting sh*t comparing it to ford, can tell you've never driven one.

That 9G on them is an amazing gearbox too!

Opinions vary and that's fine I think they are poor but everyone entitled to their opinion and I respect that.

I know w208 is old skool that's why I bought the R8 but the clk is still good.

Golf has the highest technology of the lot twin turbo petrol and KERS makes it very rapid.

C63 any day, V8 is V8 but for the money the c43 is impressive bit of kit and has potential. Personally would rather opt for an M4 if I couldn't get a C63.

Nail on the head if you want a 6 cylinder blown lump the m3/4 does it far better.

If you want a proper AMG none of this marketing rubbish for badge snobs then the C63 is the one to have.

Personally Alx, I see the C63 and C43 as very different cars, for people with different requirements.

Performance in a straight line is only part of the story and if I decided to modify a 43 I wouldn't be emulating a 63, because that's not what I'm after.

With respect, I'm not convinced it would be "a dot in the mirror" of a stock 63 anywhere other than the Autobahn.

The 43 is slightly lighter and (as Ian has said) will have less weight in the nose; with the right chassis set-up, tuning mods and the rear biased 4Matic it would tick more of my boxes for performance and handling across a range of road/track/conditions than the stock 63 can do out of the box.

Everyone's entitled to spend their money their way and drive whatever they want, so if you prefer the 63 I'm fine with that ;)

No replacement for displacement,enough said!;-)

Ha, ha, very funny, not heard that old chestnut in ages, thanks :)

Seriously though, leaving aside the dubious marketing of 70's muscle cars, if that were really the case in the real world then judging a car simply on the basis of its cubic capacity would mean the 8.4 litre Viper would be the best car in the world and more than twice as good as the C63.

You're not sugesting that are you ;)

Well there's rubbish engineering and mercedes engineering, enough said!lol

On serious note the viper sounds gorgeous, shame doesn't go as it sounds.

The only real issue with the new C63 is the price. The M3 can be had brand new for a smidge over £50k with discounts available. Mercedes are just greedy and that's why the M3 has annihilated its sales.

It's a shame because I believe the new one is fantastic!
