C63 W204 oil - 5w40?

I got quoted Total 5W-40 for my upcoming service. Can't find anyone else running Total oil in their M156, is that a bad thing?
Wouldn't it be fine as long as it is 229.5?

You’re able to supply your own oil with Sandown group - makes for a decent saving!

I'm using 5w40 Shell Helix from eurocarparts every year or 2000 miles. A bit OTT but I also use Liqui Moly. 🙂

Also treat my engine to Redex octane booster now an then. I'm not a particular fan of the new E5 petrol with ethanol content.

What is the Redex octane booster good for? I've never heard about anyone adding this.

Red ex is a good product. You can use as an special treat but not recessary. Also worth adding the injector cleaner as you know they can block over time and if stuck open can even hydrolock the engine. If think the injector service interval (replacement) is around 60k ? Easy to change out too.

Like I said, there's a good chance the invoice is wrong. On the one hand you've got garage monkey who knows mechanics and on the other you've got secretary monkey who knows copy and paste.
Have you tried Motul X-max?

There are far better oils out there than the mercedes brand and others that have been mentioned
Which one? The dealership puts in Sinopec 5w40. I'm thinking Liqui moly green 5w40 or motul 0w40 X max. Unfortunately I can't find anything from Bob oil forum on motul x max.

Anyone can recommend an oil or say a brand is best or believe every word on the packaging .

Luckily a mechanical engineer who researched tribology tested over 250 oils for oil film strength as #1 priority is to prevent wear.

Here's the top 40 grade .

At 15th place placed better than a racing Ester , Liqui Moly or a Motul equivalent .

Mobil is 15th, what about the rest? Share the article for a full disclosure.

I don't really know much. Motul has always been good with every application I used it for in our cars, it has all the required approvals so I'm staying with it. Ever since this covid pandemic, I've used Motul and I'm quite satisfied.

Any reason you don't use liqui moly or motul engine oil?
Shell Helix (5w40 fully synthetic oil) is a known brand and reasonably priced from eurocarparts, easily available and is 229.5. If you can let me know the cost of liqui moly oil or motel oil, I will research and consider it. I change my oil every year or every 2000 miles which ever comes first. So I do need oil which is easily accessible and reasonably priced.

By the way, most engine oil comes from the same place i.e. same refinery. Mobil oil, very good oil, but you will be paying for the brand name too. That's something to bear in mind.

I do however use liqui moly additive though for my twin camshafts. 😉

On my push rod 345cu Hemi engine, is has single over head camshafts and I just use fully synthetic 5w30 Shell Helix, even cheaper. Happy days 🙂

Shell Helix or similar is plenty good enough. What's most important is regular oil changes. That'll have far more benefit than more expensive oil.
