its under the bonet.

Stand at the front , its above the battery. A few lock clips and it kind of wiggles out from memory. Filter comes out there

Make sure you get the right filter and re-fit the housing properly and locate the washer fluid pipe in the correct place otherwise your washer won't work.

Fuzzer, Thanks. Found it. What would I do withoot this forum ? an answer in less than 5 minutes !! First time I have had that cover off.

So how come I have been reading posts and diagrams showing it under the footwell, is there another filter or is that for different models ?

inside cabin there is another filter only if you have the "advanced" climate control (those with digital display).

Power of the forum: you have another fast reply in few minutes!

There may be other models , but ive changed a W202 and W210 filter in the cabin.

I may be wrong but I believe the C240 doesnt have an internal cabin filter but just the one above the battery

Job Done.

Job done. Thanks Fuzzer, BlackC55, 1998K and Rumble (in order of replies, for instant advice).

Filter that came out was very dirty. Not sure if it had ever been changed.

Blackc55, you mentioned the washer pipes, are mine located correctly, they don't seem to get in the way of the filter casing, they just "hang" at the side.

Here are some pics, old filter versus new. ( I know you guys like looking at pics !)

The pipes look fine. There is a modified clip seen on the later 203's to stop the kinking.

BTW the Hengst filters are very good and EXACTLY the same as the MB items.

Thanks, Filter came from Eurocarparts, Wembley to West coast Scotland in 22 Hours from placing order on line. Fastest delivery I have ever had for anything.

Next mission, Fuel filter. But not till next week. :bannana: :bannana: :bannana:

The filter isnt to bad Ive changed worse on mine . Thats probably 12-24 months old

Thanks, Both of these look worse than mine. How long since these were last changed ?

....and, I just had a look at your web link to your car photos. Nice, may I ask, what colour of paint did you use on your alloy refurb job. Need to do mine soon.

c240yaz: if you have a fancy A/C like Marco mentioned - with digital display- there's another couple of active carbon filters, as BlackC55 indicated, below dashboard above passenger footwell. These are easily acessible undoing two screws and sliding a plastic tray to the rear side to release it. Then you can lower the two black filters. You can test them with the windscreen washer:
1) Turn it on with cabin airflow set to intake
2) Wait till you feel the smell of the windscreen washer fluid.
3) Let things settle - no smell anymore.
4) Press carbon filter activation button
5) Activate windscreen washer and sniff the air to check if you can feel the smell again. If so, they are shot. If not, fine.
6) Don't sniff to actively otherwise hyperventilation will knock you into limp mode and you'll end up with head lying on dashboard and looking silly.

Eurico, I have better idea for sniffing. Open 1 bottle of Johnnie Walker Red Label, place on bonnet, turn blower on. If you can smell it, lock up car, return to house with bottle, get wasted. Head lying on carpet.

Seriously, I have standard A/C, so not sure if I have additional filter inside car. BlackC55 reckons charcoal, but not sure where to find it. maybe after drinking the whiskey, all will be clear. :)

Coming from a Scot that means that Johnnie Walker Red Label is the right type of fuel to be used in oneself?

Absolutely. By direct in-line fuel injection. No lift pump required.
